Seemed what I needed - to sync between home and work and keep those fields I need like the colour of appointments ( I'm a visual person), but was tough to install (couldn't find drive E: bizarrely, and took up HUGE space on my palm) and then syncing between home and work it appeared to check every file, not just the changed ones.
They advise to archive old files and/or reinstall outlook if the syncing is slow, and I wasn't keen on either option!
Uninstalling didn't change the hotsync options (the palm sync for callendar, contacts etc remained defaulted off) - I had to do that manually, and I think that that's a bit of a sin - uninstalls should put things back the way they were.
It looks really nice, and I like the 5 days view a lot, but can't live with the tedious syncs.
My advice - Try before you buy, and if you are not confident in changing hotsync custom choices, find a friend who is, or don't risk it!
Hope that this helps,
Dason

I downloaded the trial version here and ended up having to do a hard reset on my T/X because of the following error message '(Sys 0505) (0,841)' that froze the screen and when I performed a reset, the palm went into perpetual restarts and closes. Then I tried installing it again on my now clean Palm and it happend again. I then downloaded a trial version directly from dataviz.com that seems to have installed correctly and looks great so far. Looking forward to putting it to work. As an additional note, I'm switching to Outlook and Beyond Contacts because ACT! has not kept up their ACT! for Palm application and the plain Palm Link application is amazingly featureless.

I've tried four PIM software varieties, and looked at a whole lot more. It seems that there are two types: Those which make the existing Palm offering prettier, and those which really try to offer clarity and cpmprehensive information. Key Suite and Beyond Contacts are the two serious players: Beyond Contacts looks great, and can be used quickly on the move to handle every bit of infomation.
Try this scenario: You are running a small company. You are formulating strategies for half a dozen projects and you're supporting several sales efforts. Let's say you're also trying to fit your family into the mix so they don't feel neglected, and you're also a member of a sports team. Chances are you have many more categories of information than the standard 15, and chances are you need to have a user-friendly way to have your information presented to you, (rather than having to find it.) That is Beyond Contacts, and that's why it's brilliant. And no, I don't work for them!

Well I guess i should put my 2 cents in. I have this program. I would say it's excellent but some major things dog it though that could be used for improvement.
1. The intro Screen that asks if you want it to be the default handler for notes:
That's a royal pain in the rear. I had a previous version that I had to backdate my installation so I would not get asked this question. Every single time you would click on yes, it would ask you the same question everytime you started the darn thing up.
2. It hiccups sometimes:
sometimes it does not sync with the desktop it will hang and then freeze up. This neccessitates a restart of both the hotsync and the PDA.
3. Info is not hotsynced:
About 90% of the time everything is hotsynced. But ther other 10% require you to check the settings. That's what I had to do.
The Inbox To Go I would give 5 stars to because it has seldom failed me. maybe hiccup but but I've not had a problem with it.
Overall I think this app is good, you just have to watch out for a few things. I run a Yahoo group on this if anyone has any other questions

Though this sounded exactly like what I needed I crashed every time I opened the program. A hard reset at minimum would be needed. The program also took up way to much space in RAM.

Version 3.008 on Garmin ique3600.
Installed fine and works well. However, a friend tried to beam over a contact with waypoint info and a window pops up asking if I wanted to accept the contact into Beyond Contacts. BC does not support Garmin waypoints but after I had installed it, it takes over the address book on beam receive. I then tried to assign the generic address book to my address book hard button - the program is no longer listed in the preferences window!! Its like BC did its best to wipe out the Palm address book.
BC has its own database - does not use the Palm db's like most other PIM programs. So no interface with datebk5, waypoint managment programs, etc. It does integrate nicely with Outlook, but for this garmin user, it was not only unacceptable, but seems to have done some permanent damage to my unit (i.e. no longer able to assign the address book to the address book button).
Also came with InBoxToGo - works fine, but only obtains mail from outlook (much better programs exist that allow for multiple email accounts).
All in all - Not recommended.
Jim Chiang wrote at 02/21/2005
overall Beyond Contacts does a good job of mirroring outlook. A few shortcomings after using it for a bit are:
1. Inbox to Go does not sync subfolders. Even the free Versamail app that came with my T3 will do this.
2. You cannot use a button launcher program like AArdquick or 1 Button Pro to map your hardware buttons to multiple applications with Beyond Contacts. There only wayt to map the Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Notes to separate hardware buttons is to do that from within Beyond Contacts. Stragenly Inbox to Go CAN be mapped with a button launcher since it shows up as a separate app on the Palm. This is REALLY annoying for those that have becomed accustomed to the efficiency of button launchers.

As far as office productivity apps, DataViz has some of the best products, but the PIM segment is too fractured to be cost-effective especially given competing apps.
If you use Outlook and want to keep track of the special fields like birthday, etc. Beyond Contacts (BC -- $30) is the best Palm PIM, hands-down. However, the email app that accompanies BC does not provide wireless capability. For that you need another app, Inbox ToGo Wireless (ITW -- $50). In addition, to run either or both of these programs, you need yet another app, Docs ToGo (DTG -- $40-50).
So to get the Palm version of OfficeXP/2003, you need to spend $120-130. The PIM component costs an outrageous $80 alone. BC/ITGW is only functionally superior re syncing the special fields. Additionally, it has a less flexible interface, supports only one email account, email attachments, and ITGW may charge for sending/receiving emails after 12 months. For DataViz to charge for relaying email messages is like every server operator charging you for every email message that you send that happens to be routed thru their servers. Its pure rent-seeking behavior. As far as I can tell, they don't add any value, or minimal value which is unnecessary in the first place. Outrageous!
I can only really recommend this product to people who really NEED to sync the special fields given the double cost upfront w/ possible usage charges after 12 months.

I had tried various programs as my PDA (including Agendus) before discovering Beyond Contacts. This programme is excellent! Calender is simple and effective. BC is the only one that will let you have separate folders for diferent contact types (although you have to press 'contacts' each time to bring up the folder list). Basically, it does everyting I need it to do in a simple way.
(N.B. I have not used the e-mail sync feature, so I cannot really comment on that)

I will definitely be purchasing your product!!!

Beyond Contacts would have been a masterpiece, had it not been for the following shortcomings:
1. The BC Today view is not customisable, which leaves us no alternative but to see the same screen every morning.
2. Future appointments cannot be seen on BC view
3. It disables the Outlook- Palm Conduit. The Palm Desktop-Palm conduit still works
4. It disables Outlook-Palm Desktop update
5. It does not give 5-jog dial support for the find command, which means to find an address you have to pull out your stylus.
I would expect these enhancements in future editions

I've been using Beyond Contacts (BC) for several months now on a Sony Clie SJ33 and have the following observations:
- Contrary to a recent review here, BC does work with Outlook 2003. In fact, that is the only version of Outlook I have used it with.
- I would rate this program more highly were it not for the fact that its interface is very limited in terms of options and views. As a consequence I still use the competition most of the time to manage my calendar items.
- The only real reason I am using BC is because it maintains the same categories as Outlook (allowing multiple categories per contact) and allows you to sync multiple folders. That seems to be its only real advantage.
- Unfortunately, BC will not allow you to create subfolders on the Palm. You have to do this with Outlook.
- Because BC uses its own conduit for synchronization, you can still maintain sync with another application like Agendus, which is how I am currently working.
- I found the program worked flawlessly in the installation and sych process from the beginning, and I have had no problems with this program, ever.
-In conclusion, for me this has been a very solid and reliable program. Unfortunately, its usefulness is limited due to its limited views and options. Were these issues improved, I could forget the other program and just use Beyond Contacts.
Bruno Nyssen wrote at 05/10/2004
ok this is outlook look-and-feel (averagely)
but...
- this is brand new and not support Outlook 2003
- only Inbox folder is synchronized, not all other folders you may have (even not sent folder!)
- no wireless possibility for mail (mobile phone, network, ...): apparently you have to buy another product!!
- contacts PIM is far less good than the competition
- etc.

If you plan to synchronize your PDA with two PC's, then you should avoid Beyond Contacts 3.003. It consistently duplicates all changed entries whenever synchronizing with the other PC. As such, it is a constant source of headaches. I have not found the developers to be responsive to this issue, as well as numerous other bugs, some involving program behavior, and other more serious ones (e.g. memory errors that will crash the PDA when seraching for entries that cannot be found). It is certainly a much needed application, but unfortunately, it is not reliable and therefore counterproductive.
R Griffin wrote at 01/15/2004
From a conceptual standpoint, this software is terrific. It offers the most complete synchronization with Outlook on the market, as well as a very convenient and effective user interface Palm interface. HOWEVER, owners of Tungsten T3's beware! Beyond Contacts fails to take advantage of the full screen capability of the T3, and Dataviz dropped the ball by not developing Beyond Contacts to capitalize fully on high-res. There is a great deal of space that could be used on-screen in a high-res environment, thereby providing even more information in a convenient format. Synchronization with two PCs works well once it is set up properly, just be sure to back up beforehand. Lastly, it does require that Outlook serve as your default e-mail client. I still do not see the need for this requirement. If you use a seperate e-mail client (as I do), you have to go in and set Outlook as the default for installation of the software on the desktop. Then you can reset back to your default e-mail client. I do enjoy the functionality of the software, and I recommend it to non-T3 users who aren't hung up on the lack of high-res capability. But I can't give it 5 stars until these issues are addressed in future FREE updates.

Loved the functionality but not reliable!! They sorted the sync issue so that one can now get data on the palm to overwrite Outlook (which couldn't be done before) but it has frozen so many times on my Clie when using the ToDo list I have had to take it off my palm as it was just not relaible. Am now searching again. Make sure it works with Office 2003 as there are lots of bugs floating around. Shame as otherwise I think it is the best in terms of overall look and feel and functionality (can have more than one address book etc)
Lou Miller wrote at 01/14/2004
The program program functionality is OK. It scrambles my mailing lists as I synch between two PCs, and the appointments do not appear in color. However, my experience with their support is terrible. I submitted a bug report via email several weeks ago and got only a canned reply stating someone was assigned. Since then silence.

Like a previous reviewer - I don¿t know why people are giving this program **** reviews. Read the main description of the intention of the program ¿ it is supposed to be Outlook on your handheld (which is what it is).
This program is AWESOME for synching with Microsoft Outlook tasks, notes, contacts and your inbox (I am not currently using the inbox feature - still need to iron out a few things there). It has a great user interface and is easy to install.
Once thing I did not like was that I had to uninstall Beyond Contacts and install DesktopToGo to transfer my existing data ¿ then uninstall DesktopToGo and re-install Beyond Contacts (then re-sync). I also think that this program should be able to access the Palm in-built address book (which it does not do ¿ it only uses your contacts that are in Outlook).
There are two other well-known PIM programs that offer excellent features (more than Beyond Contacts) but if you want to be able to sync completely with Outlook and use a program that has the same look and feel as Outlook - then Beyond Contacts is the program.
For the reviewers that gave this program ****, obviously this program does not have all the features that you require. Beyond Contacts is the closest program to Outlook. I think that users just need to find the program that best suits their needs.

this is a must have for anyone that has contact folders and subfolders in outlook. too bad it does not work as well with email-it does not support multiple email accounts (I have a pop3 and hotmail, and only the pop3 inbox syncs with this program) nor does it support subfolders for a single email account.
Aniruddha Bose wrote at 11/25/2003
I do not know why people are giving this program **. If one uses Microsoft Outllook for contacts, then there is no problem with synchronisation. The only problem is if one were to use Address DB Lookup or Join with Dataviz's Smartlist To Go, it looks for Palm Address Book. No other program can access its contacts, as it does not subsitute the built in address book. The yellow background could be more flexible with different styles. Variety is the spice of life. The best alternative to Outlook on handheld. If you use outlook, you must have this.

Nice interface: calendar with color label ability, week view, and not limited to 15 categories. Also like the fact that notes is not limited to 32k. All components have very detailed view that we can stuff in loads of info (just like Outlook).
However, I can not link the contacts nor the tasks to other programs. Dataviz own Smartlist can only link to the Palm contacts. I don't like the limited priorities in tasks (only low, normal, high). I'm using progect, so can not link as well.
Transferring the Palm standard datas to BC is cumbersome, as we need to first download DesktopToGo (and uninstall BeyondContacts).

CAREFUL! This application is not the same one the received the Gear's Choice from this wonderful site. Beyond Contacts is a new sync program that replaces DataViz's Desktop To Go.
In my opinion Beyond Contacts is an inferior product. As Donald mentioned in an earlier review this application takes a lot of memory. It took 1.8 MB on my Prism and that was without my db data imported yet. Also to get all of the Outlook fields it must bypass a Microsoft security screen. This was problematic on my machine.
I am in the process of getting a refund on my upgrade. Please demo the application before upgrading. I was not a happy shopper.

Update of earlier review due to software update.
Well the biggest 'bug' is fixed...I can now sync with multiple PCs.
The interface is better now, but still a little slow...but that's not a big deal, if it takes me an additional 2 seconds to get someones telephone number... so what?
It looks good, and it syncs absolutely perfectly EVERY time.
DataViz mail has been updated at the same time (finally) and with Documents To Go, a mobile connection and VersaMail, I successfully spent a week out of the office and remained fully operational without taking my PC.
I have used Jack Flash and stuffed everything into my Sony's Flash and deleted the built in apps, so I am now well embedded into the DataViz world. They has better not try and charge me for any upgrades though, Like they did on their latest ver. of Documents-to-Go. MOST UPSETTING.

If you need all fields from Outlook, this is the program. If you need multiple categories per contact, this is the program. I tried all the biggies, but this was the only one that delivered everything I used in Outlook.
Some posters complain about slow syncing, but frankly I have no idea what they are getting at -- Yes, it syncs once to the basic database, and a second time to BC ... but we are talking seconds, a half minute at most. Having both dbs means you can still do simple tasks like beam a contact et cetera with the built in, and have every single Outlook field on your device. All this & HiRes display with thumb wheel support.
If it had the ability to convert a task into an appointment (hard to find anywhere) it would rate five stars in my books.
If you need all the Outlook fields, nothing else will do. Period.

There are a few serious flaws: (1) the program is too slow. (2) The extra database is unneccesary & thus takes up too much space. And (3) The font is too big, there should be an option for an even smaller font, because the font prohibits the some data from showing up on the screen
However, I like the similiarities with outlook, and it is visually appealing, still I was not satisfied, and am returning to agendus

My 30-day trial is coming to an end tomorrow and I've decided not to buy it. There are two main reasons, both of which sound petty, but were decisive: (1) HotSyncing takes a really long time. It's really surprising how long it takes. (2) The new Palm 5.0 way of searching the address book using the 5-way controller is not available in Beyond Contacts' contacts app. I had just gotten used to searching for names without needing a stylus, and now I can't stand doing without it.
I've been wishing for a way of putting all of my Outlook contacts info onto the Plam, and BC basically does that well. But it's not as important to me as day-to-day usability, and those two issues too often make me curse BC. As the product is right now, I'd rather not have it than have it, so I sure won't spend money on it.

Have been using for years the five star Desktop to Go from DataViz, which provides a tight integration between Outlook and the Palm Address Book. Purchased a license of Beyond Contacts, that was supposed to be an upgrade to it.
Enjoyed the extremely good interface with Outlook, both visually and data synchronization. It ressembles Outlook on a Palm. Users that work "offline" may appreciate it and find it useful. It has a good integration with its own datebook, todo and has a Today view were one can have a general view of their contacts, schedules and tasks. But here is were it stops. The more I used it, the more became frustrated by its lack of features and support to real life needs.
What is the point of having a second database of Outlook data besides the one with the Palm Address book if you still have to keep both? Beyond Contacts carries an overhead of more than 2MB of RAM and is slow even on a TT.
It does not support dialing on non convergence devices such as the TT1/2. It does not support SMS and integration with Versa Mail that comes free with the TT and is far superior to their DataViz Mail. It is not compatible with Pda Defense Pro. Can't keep preferences as it defaults back. Did spend a lot of time going through this with their top notch support team. Filed the issues for my wish list.
Took away from my Palm and back to using their own and excellent Desktop To Go together with the Palm Address Book, which delivers a lot more and what I need. Would suggest that they do not discontinue Desktop to Go as they did. It is reliable, elegant and small.
Will not ask for a refund for Beyond Contacts, as kindly offered by them, as I believe DataViz is capable of addressing customer demands and delivering a proper product.
Will wait for the next release.

I love the program. It does what Dataviz said it would do. The software apps are very nicely done and well-organized. I have had no synchronization issues, although I do look forward to the release with dual-computer synchronization. There are two things that I believe would make the software better: 1) a high resolution version to help maximize the available screen space, and 2) Correction of the crash bug with the Palm portable keyboard (despite the instructions to install the new keyboard driver.) Solve those problems and this is a no-brainer for 5 stars.

Also, does not interface with Mobile and SMS of Tungsten/W so I still have to maintain and sync Palm Address. Just address this issues and I'll give it 5 stars.

It makes no sense to post a negative review because the software doesn't have a feature the software doesn't claim to have! The fact that it lacks a feature that is important to some people has no bearing on the quality of the software for the people for whom it is intended! For people who want to sync with more than one PC, they should neither try nor comment on Beyond Contacts. For people who want a great solution for syncing one computer with Outlook, this is it, and they should ignore comments from people complaining that it doesn't do something it wasn't intended to do.

After reeceiving an email regarding Beyond Contacts, I reviewed the product on DataViz' web site and purchased the product based on my experiences and product information. What a mistake. I should have read these reviews first! As others have stated, it is a complete waste of money for those who sync to a computer at home and one at work. That's why I have a PDA. DataViz missed the boat on this important factor and should make it clearer on there web site.

Only issue (if it is one) is that its a little slow on my m515.

DataViz should have taken some hints from Agendus and DateBk. The interface is just OK, and doesn't make very good use of HiRes or HiRes+ capabilities--it's there, but barely. Syncing to only one PC is just plain wrong. DesktopToGo was a great product, but I won't be upgrading to BC until DataViz does a lot (and I mean a LOT) more work on it. I expected better.

As an Outlook user at work and home this looked like a great solution to the functionality I was looking for. Alas, while it does offer a robust connection to Outlook, I find that after previously using Datebk 5 that I miss the color coding, the alternate views, the time zone functions, etc. In addition that fact that it only syncs with one PC is inexcusable. I was also miffed that the free trail in the teaser does not show up when you try to download it. I ended up paying for it and may end up going back to Datebk. Needs some serious work.

It looks great and is tantalisingly close to what we all need, but it is a nonsense to issue software of this type which will not synchronise on a second PC.
What do the authors think PDA's are for? Most serious users (who would pay for this software) are using PDA's (among other things) to keep documents up to date on home and office PC's.
I wasted the money buying it before I found out that it was only going to co-operate with one of my three PC's.

Not quite 5 stars yet, not only does it load slow but it often crashes my Sony Clie when using the drop down menu to access my Dataviz Mail "Inbox". It would also be nice if one could synchronize the contacts, Tasks, etc. with the Palm built-in databases. And one very inportant feature from MS Outlook not found in Beyond Contacts is the Journal. I use the Outlook Journal quite often to log phone calls and it would be nice if future versions of BC would include this.

As a software developer myself I always make a limited trial available, especially if it's being posted on a place where in palmgear's case, in the purchasing usage policy is states specifically that refunds are up to the developer! To the developers: offer a trial version before you suck 50 bucks from someone and don't respond to their contacts for a refund, and to Palmgear: please, you have a wonderful rep in the palm market, don't ruin it by letting people advertise non-trial software. That's just irresponisble and needs to be changed. Thank you for your patience. -me

Great program. If you are looking for most robust compatability with MS Outlook under the Palm OS then this is the program to get. Fairly slow on older processors and there are a few (very few) elements that could be improved (associating contacts with appointments). If it just ran a little faster, I would give it 5 stars. The only things I wish it would do is allow attachments to be opened up by something other than Documents to Go (not likely to happen) and to be able to sync with two computers.

It displays the calendar, contacts, inbox, notes, and tasks all from the initial screen, and you can quickly switch between these capabilities from any function. This coupled with its HI-Res GUI (Sony NZ-90 Clie`)makes this application well worth the nominal cost. If you use MS Outlook, Beyond Contacts is for you!!

I was hesitant to even try this after reading the initial reviews, but I am very impressed. I have a 33Mhz M515 and the Today view opens in less than 2 seconds and I use outlook extensively. The Outlook counterparts calendar, contacts, tasks, notes, & email are all good applications. Only two issues on my wish list so far...
1. Checkboxes next to names to select address' for email and meeting requests
2. Native MS Exchange (No desktop required) syncronization / access would make this app a MUST HAVE.
I highly recommend it, a wonderful addition to my Palm.

The whole idea behind a Palm is: small applications for specific purposes. A bloated software product that tries to replace all (!) of the built-in apps (which are not really above the top, but they do their job fast and good). I would never switch to something that tries to be the one-for-all-solution. Dear developers: Read the "Zen of Palm" again...

The 31 day view is slow to load and not very useful once it does. Dataviz is on the right track but the programers need to take a lesson from DateBk5 31 day view or at least Outlook's desktop monthly view. Dataviz is known for top of the line products and I look forward to their response to these post.

Speed is a problem, yes. But it is very close to outlook, the possibility to take over the folder organisation of outlook is great. I don't read mails on my Palm, so not usefull for me, and also not a problem if not good. A use Agendus and Shadow together, Beyond contacts is possible the replacement for both. (I don't use the tree structure of shadow very often)
It is a killer app IMO, but need a few upgrades and, by the way, Palm gears indication HI-RES is not correct!!

This is one of the best packages I have used in a long time, simple and intuitive with easily the power you need.
Keep it up.

Major dissapointment. This software is two or three steps behind the competition. The mail tool is weak, the interface is clunky and it was a huge waste of money. Thank goodness for the 30 day money back policy.

This is a great program. But in my opinion it has been released way too soon for major distribution. As others have already mentioned, the Synch of this program is slow. Plus, viewing by day, week, and month is slow. Especially viewing by month is quite slow! When it comes to flipping from month to month, be patient! It takes time. Therefore, this is one item that needs to be addressed in a future release, "indexes" where speed is not an issue. I have a 144mhz Zire 71 that is FAST. Sadly this program is SLOW even on a fast processor chip.
Would also be nice to see icons (like in the other DateBook applications).
shannon butts wrote at 05/14/2003
Awesome program, the calender and tasklist are excellent but there are a few issues:
1. TOO SLOW of a sync, i use a zire 71(144mhz processor)
2. You can only sync to one PC
3. you cannot add a contact to a task
4. The today screen should only show tasks due today. Much like the Wassup program.
5. When you add a contact to an appointment you can only use contacts with email addresses.
6. Today screen should be more flexible.
i would rate the calender, contacts and the tasklist an 11 out of 10 but the rest of the program and today screen functionalilty I would only rate a 2 out of 10.

At first look, a great program, but after a week,it's limits show, especially linking contact to Events. Really need Hi-res support. DataViz and Best Software introduced half completed packages on two fine Contact Managers, this will keep many of us on DateBk or Agendus.

This product is a very good step in the right direction. I've been looking for something to sync contact details with Outlook directly instead of using a proprietary format. I also like having the extra details on ToDos to save using something like Projects (which doesn't sync with ToDos at all), and while I love DateBook, it has a thousand features I never use and doesn't show attendees for meetings and some other standard Outlook info. Add hi-res support, allow syncing to different folders (I prefer to sync my ToDos with a shared Outlook folder instead of my own), perhaps speed it up a bit, and you'll have yourselves at least one paying customer.
Ernie Beckley wrote at 05/07/2003
Can't sync with more than one PC, Sloooooooooow (on a 66MHz NR70), Memory hog, no HiRes or HiRes+ support. After releasing products like Documents To Go, I expected more from DataViz. Wait for the next version.

Nice to be able to keep all of the Outlook data fields in sync with handheld. However, when using the palm, Beyond Contacts will not allow you to assign/link/relate a contact with, for example, a new task, meeting/appointment etc.---relating contacts with meetings, task etc can only be done in Outlook. This is goofy.
Hopefully DataViz will get this right in the next go round.
k p wrote at 04/29/2003
Here is what is missing. Does not sync custom fields in Outlook. No shortcut to add notes to a new task; you have to click on edit, go to Notes section...; No way to define custom views to sort tasks by Today, This Week..; Difficult to pick name from phone lookup screen: names are truncated and no way to expand/open entry to verify if that is the name you want; No way to control sync of individual items such as palm wins for tasks, but sync dates both ways: it is all or none. I will wait for the next round. Good start folks.

I never post reviews, but I just have to let everyone know that this is a great piece of software. Not perfect yet, but still worthy of 5 stars. Just an abbreviated list of features I have been waiting for my whole Pilot life: 250 categories, multiple categories, view multiple subfolders, task alarms, recurring tasks. This is an awesome effort. Thank you Dataviz.

Hi, Just tried out Beyond Contacts... this is just too good to be true! It is better than the PocketPC's Pocket Outlook.
Kevin Leah wrote at 04/26/2003
Nearly there but not quite - It's great to have something that will sync with Outlook contacts without losing data that the Plam Address Book doen't have fields for (as some conduits have done to me in the past - I lost everyones birthdays!). It's let done by the Contact view that has a column for the name and a column for the phone number - neither is wide enough to show all the information (Not a promlem in the DataViz screen shots as they are showing American format numbers and no Country Codes) - It should either just display the name or better, it should use a smaller font on higher resolution devices. (Incidently this is my chief complant with the Palm built in Address Book). My other promlem is progams such as the Palm SMS application look in the Palm Address book for phone numbers - so I still have to maintain that as well!

I really like the integration with Outlook, including categories and all address and phone information, but miss some of the convenient features of other individual application software.
Bennett Weber wrote at 04/24/2003
Nice, as far as it goes, but it presupposes that Outlook is the best program for use on the Palm. It isn't. If you need absolute compatability, go ahead, but there are better separate programs available.

Great looking and very useful... Would like the ability to see the Today screen each time I powered-up, and jog dial does not seem to be fully supported, but all-in-all another powerful app from DataViz
Craig Patchett wrote at 04/23/2003
Great product, I guess, if you're not familiar with other products for the Palm. While the Outlook Today overview is nice it it would be far better as a standalone product that could be linked to other third-party apps that provide better support for calendar, contacts, notes, tasks, and emails than the ones provided as part of Beyond Contacts.
5 stars for the Outlook Today component, 2 or 3 for all the supporting apps.

Was having trouble sync-ing with Outlook XP (2002) and win2000 kept getting access errors. With Desktop to Go plus support from Dataviz (they get right on the phone with you and stay with you until it's fixed), no more errors. Super product, superb support from people that know they're product, Outlook, and operating systems.

A really excellent product. After having used it with Outlook 2000 for around a week and then migrated to Outlook 2002 (Office XP) synchronization failed. I contacted dataviz' online-support and got very helpful hints rapidly: Now the synchronization again works absolutely tremendeous. Great product, excellent support!

A great product! Makes syncing of all outlook data very painless. Much better than PocketMirror. I ordered the Desktop/Documents To Go bundle, and have been thoroughly pleased with the way it runs on my Palm III C. And Dataviz's Customer Service is excellent to boot. Count me as a highly satisified customer.

Very good software. I find the popup dialog boxes during hotsync somewhat annoying, but I guess I can live with that. I got DesktopToGo after getting fed up with PocketMirror. I would recommend this highly!
Len Asbury wrote at 08/18/2000
I was not as happy with this as I was with PocketMirror from Chapura. Maybe I came in at a time when Chapura was on a roll. I am using the Beta of PocketMirror Professional, and it seems to work very well. Configurable, quick, and appears to have a smaller footprint inside the Palm. When PocketMirror Pro becomes available for purchase, I'll be back here to buy it.

Desktop To Go did not transfer a large part of the data from my Palm software to Outlook. The repeating appointments and alarms that had been set within the Palm software did not transfer to Outlook. And a large majority of phone numbers and addresses also did not transfer over correctly. In addition, the desktop to go software corrupted my palm software. I had to completely uninstall the software and start from scratch. The level of service at DataViz was also extremely poor. They were of absolutely no help in solving the problem. I would highly recommend thinking twice before installing Desktop To Go on your system... it has created an absolute nightmare for me, and I would hate to see the same thing happen to anyone else.

I bought a Handspring Visor Deluxe and was a bit miffed as the box said 'Link to MS Outlook', but the software only synchronised email in Outlook. DeskTopToGo solved all this at a stroke, it is a great programme managing and synchronising Outlook email, Calendar etc.

I love desktoptogo. Does a great job with little problems. When it encounters a problem it stops and allows you the human to make a decision as to the risk of syncing. The only problem I have had is when hotsync is interrupted you are required to resync or override one or the other. Another problem is in resyncing records tend to be duplicated.<BR><BR>
It was nice to be able to download this product and try for 15 days and and register without reinstalling or interrupting me.
