Very highly recommended application if you want to keep your data safe! Every pda user should have this, simple yet solid security. Thanks Maxime and JB Labelle for making it freeware!

I love this app. but after4 years of use on various palms it crashed on my Treo 650 :( I have switched to Keyring. Hopefully, the open source community will work on a Treo compatible update.

I have used Cryptopad for over 5 years now. Excellent program for securing data. I much prefer the memo style field approach, as opposed to other fixed field secure programmes. Cryptopad is simple and it works flawlessly. Many thanks.

Excellent replacement for memopad, still the only choice if you want something to store encrypted notes. No problems in about five years of use.

Works great, just as advertised. Enabled me to encrypt memos that I don't want just anyone being able to read. Great job and free too!

BE AWARE!! If you write a memo in Outlook, and then did a sync to get it on my Palm. When it was on my Palm, I encrypted it in CryptoPad. On my next sync, this made it a Deleted Item in Outlook, though it stayed on my Palm. PEOPLE SHOULD BE MADE AWARE THAT THIS IS POSSIBLE!! Thanks for your attention, Gordon

I installed it this evening and encrypted a category. Used the Datebook application for a few minutes, then back to Cryptopad, and the entire category was gone. Two dozen entries wiped out. I went to the MemoPad app, and everything in that category had been erased. I recovered it from the Desktop, but I don't think I'll use this app again.

Great application - the best security app out there - and FREE TOO! I love the free-flow input (like Memo Pad) and no restrictions to set fields. BUT - the latest version 4.09 caused my m515 and Tungsten T to CRASH any time I used find/search function on my device. The CRASH comes as soon as the search hits the CRYPTOPAD data. version 3.64 works fine and does not have the bug BUT 3.64 has no color or hi-res. PLEASE UPDATTE/FIX SOON! THANKS!

I've used CryptoPad for several years now on a Palm V and a Palm m505. It is an exceptional replacement for the built-in MemoPad - you hardly notice the difference except for the addition of security features. My "MemoPad" button is assigned to start CryptoPad and it's worked flawlessly ever since I got it. I would have been happy to pay for it but it's free!

CryptoPad is a VERY GOOD replacement for MemoPad. I have been using it for a year with no problems... on some pretty lengthy notes too! Will it stand up to a team of NSA crackers? I don't think so, but it's good at what it does... and plenty good enough to keep most prying eyes from your sensitive data.

I'm using it for about a year now on a Visor Neo (Palm OS v3.5.2H3.0) without serious problems. The only drawback is the password visible in clear text.

I've been using Cryptopad for at least 18 months now (Palm IIIe and m500) and it has performed flawlessly at all times. I prefer it to another similar program that I tried as the encrypted memos do not show up in the regular memopad when using Cryptopad. I've only ever really used it with a single password for all memos rather than using a different one for each item and started using it as much to encrypt data being sync'ed to my work PC as for security within the handheld, I later started using it more seriously for important personal data as well. Very good software but I'm not sure how it copes with 320x320 displays.

Beware of a serious bug! After encrypting a large memo, then decrypting it, my Palm VIIx crashed whenever Search or CryptoPad touched that memo. However the author's idea of encrypting individual memos is a good one if he can find the bug and fix it. See also "Top Secret" for another freeware encryption program that has some very good ideas in it.

Although my last review has not been published I'm trying again: this application is totally unaccaptable. After several months of good service it suddenly quit operating showing an error message from the data manager line 5964 invalid unique id string passed. There has not been an error nor a reset, it simply stopped operating. I tried the desktop program but it doesn't work. All my encrypted data is lost, big part of it irreversible. After never ending problems with the search functions I STILL WANT THE AUTHOR TO HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEM!

I've been using this for a while now. I just upgraded to a Clie NR70V and the first this I did was remove notepad and install Cryptopad into the Flash in it's place! Great package! I used JackSprat and JackFlash to change which apps I have in Flash.

Integration empowers hot-sync-ing CryptoPad as Memo Pad notes, but only by duplicating your (unencrypted) entry in Memo Pad. If you sync only FROM the desktop through Memo Pad to CryptoPad you must have the sync operation set to override the handheld to do so. Since CryptoPad encryption removes entries from Memo Pad, CryptoPad will duplicate unlimited copies of Memo Pad entries on every hot-sync this way. You can then erase the (unencrypted) entries after each hot-sync in Memo Pad.

Thanks for making this free!<BR> One slight nuisance for me: exactly like the original notepad, it starts writing a new note when entering a graffity character in the list instead of scrolling to that entry like the phonebook does- Cryptopad would be perfect, if an option for either behaviour existed!

I have used CryptoPad ever since I bought my Visor Delux in August 2000. When I upgraded to my Visor Prism CryptoPad was one of the few programs I took with me on my new handheld. This program is great, it makes saving passwords, writing programs and just hiding that little secret away so easy. This is a top 10 app, and the top of the list too.

4* not for originality, but for obvious solution. All Palm programs should have such security integration. Before I must go at least three cliks away to security, and another three cliks to come back to program. CryptoPad is excellent, simple and ergonomic substitute for Memo pad. Without limitation for text amount there may be no need for another text editor. In fact they are allmost so simple as MS NotePad. Congratulation. 5th* because it's for free.

I'm using CryptoPad since last December, I think. Initially because of it's capability to encrypt memos. It was (and is) a sure way for me to carry my bank TAN numbers with me. And with the feature to set the font for each memo, I was able to use a more narrow font for my PocketC code, but use the standard font for other memos at the same time. Another advantage is that CryptoPad does "ignore" the 4k-border of the build-in Memopad - very important in this connection is the ">4k" notification (which makes it possible for me to cut my PocketC code in memo-sized pieces). This software is really a must have for everybody who needs to work with memos seriously - and I would like to thank Maxime for keeping this software freeware.

Great memo pad/security enhancement. It's nice to be able to secure memos without having to "hide records" on the Palm. You can color code categories, individual memos, use varied fonts on each memo, category.... There is no reason not to get this!

I am the developper of CryptoPad. As far as the time to update the record at beginning is concern. This is due to a change in the way to store memos. I did not notice that as I have not so many memos but I am working on it to eliminate this annoying thing(or at least reduce it a lot).

Great program which keeps in tune with the original workings of the built-in memo pad. One quirk though, the delay time while the database updates upon opening the program is really annoying. I have over 90 records in my memopad, and waiting through 10 seconds for the program to re-update itself is poor.

I really like this app. Very intuitive to use. At my office several Palms are synced regularly on the same PC to track procedures. The desktop program security (even with OS4) is truly worthless, and I have seen people stealing information from other's memo pad by copying the windows memo file into a new user's file, or their own. Crypto-Pad provides adequate security against office information thieves, and the price can't be beat. Cheap insurance policy.

Wonderfull, Well thought out and free. Encrpted memo's don't show up in the standard memopad list which is how it should be. Forget MemoSafe and Secret - this is the one. I do like it when Freeware blows commercial SW out the water. Nice one guys.

Nice seemless integrated app. Seems to be just as good as secret!(which is about $50 for desktop and PP app) and it is free to boot. I was wondering what the heck the hard key is in reference to using it to rotate through the memo catagories. This seems like a time saver but I can't seem to do it.

Excellent program. I finally feel secure that my notes won't be read if I lose my Visor or if someone picks it up. Much better than the PalmOS built-in password security, which is easily broken. Blowfish is a reputable strong-encryption algorithm, and the fact that the author gives you the source code definitely gives me confidence. One thing I would like to see, however, is better documentation. Even the docs on their website are rudimentary.

Very impressive for freeware. Better than most of the shareware that I demo'd. I've got version 3.60,(running PalmOS 3.5 on a Vx) and all the complaints I've seen in these reviews seem to be fixed, including the request for beaming and a single global password (very nice, that!)This is the encryption package that I've chosen and am using every day. The "killer feature" for me was having the CryptoDesk, allowing me to have access to all my info on both the Palm and the PC. There are many times that I need some of my info when at the PC, but I don't have my Palm handy. I'll pick a few nits, with the disclaimer that these are VERY minor issues, especially for freeware. First, if I edit the info using CryptoDesk, I found that I had to use the Palm Install App to force my DB changes to download to my Palm. Second, some of the non-essential Cryptodesk features weren't working for me, perhaps because I'm on Windows 2000? Otherwise, glorious!

I have recently tried all the memopad encryption programs and this one is the winner hands down. It does everything I need it to do that the others offer including all the built in features of the default Palm MemoPad, PLUS it has an easy and quick method to encrypt any memo you want. But what I really like about CryptoPad is the way it stores the encrypted memos. It accesses unencrypted memos directly from the default palm database but stores the encytped memos in its own seperate database. This is escpecially nice if you you access the default memopad from other applications like Pedit. With the other memopad encytptors the memos show up but when opened are just garbled. CryptoPad is nice enough to hide it's encytped memos away from other applications. Oh and it's free (and you can download a desktop version also AND the source code if you want). One thing I would like to see is the option to encrypt a memo by clicking on a checkbox after hitting the details button for a memo but this is no big deal since you can do it from the menu or a shortcut.

I ask the question again - why are all the best apps free? I don't want to be funny or anything, but I'm *convinced* that this is: a) faster b) more stable than the built-in MemoPad. It's worth having even if you don't use the crypto feature. Absolutely excellent.

CryptoPad is the best MemoPad replacement ever made. It includes all the features of MemoPad (a 3.31 exits for OS3 users) and it is far better than MemoSafe of others programs (and free !!!). For example, MemoSafe uses only the MemoPad database so it is very easy to corrupt any crypted memo ; with CryptoPad, there is a separate database for the crypted memos to avoid any trouble. This version includes a global password feature so you just have to enter a password once in a session. Finally, CryptoPad respects totally the spirit of Palm built-in programs with one the best encryption algorithm (Blowfish). It comes also with a nice CryptoPad desktop for PC. In fact, I could not find any criticisms to this program !

Well, this program is just AMAZING ! It replaces completely MemoPad and adds the ability to hide the lines in the edit form or to choose a separate font for each memo while editing and for each category in the main view. Moreover, the Blowfish encryption algorithm is one of the best and the facility, reliability and security places CryptoPad far ahead MemoSafe or others. Notice also the great new CryptoPad desktop for PC..

This is what's been missing. A free open source memo pad with encryption. No problems in using the software. One star missing because of the potential security weakness of using static initialization vector with cfb mode encryption. Anyway, good stuff.

This really is an almost flawless replacement for the built-in memopad software. Encryption is pretty easy and quite natural and most Memopad functions are available. The only thing you do lose, and it's a nuisance, is the ability to beam a memo to someone. Command B doesn't work and it's not in the menu. Ah well... maybe in the next version?

Problems with Cryptopad began immediately after installation. Although I had not created a "global" password, Cryptopad had assigned one. This prevented access to any of the encryption features. After deleting the current password and creating my own, I still received "password failed" error messages. The only way I could gain access to the encrypted data was to first "delete" my password. This somehow had the effect of "enabling" my password, rather than deleting it. This problem occurred EVERY time I started Cryptopad.

Wow! This is what I've been searching. Easy to use and free. I'm using my Palm IIIe as a diary and this is a perfect tool to encrypt my notes. <BR> The program automatically makes a copy of existing note and encrypts it. So it's easy to write a normal note with Desktop Software and then encrypt it with CryptoPad. The only problem is that encrypted notes cannot be transferred to the Desktop Software.

I think the program is wonderful. However, I did not give it 5 stars because I cannot figure out why the developer created a program that if someone got into your pilot's memopad and couldnt access the information because it was encryped, might get angry and then delete it. It makes more sense that the forget option would through you back into the memopad without accessing the information, but instead it deletes your message (memo).

While the program is fairly allright, I have settled with MemoSafe 2.54 for the following reasons: 1. MemoSafe use the same database as the built-in Memo app, and memos are all hotsync'ed normally, even the encrypted ones. 2. MemoSafe remembers your password untill you leave the app or turns off the Palm unit. Makes it way easier to use. 3. MemoSafe even has a PIN code option, where you can just tap on fields for 1,2,3, etc. if you use a number code. The password field is offcourse hidden while entering the password.

Great idea. Used it for several weeks on my Palm IIIx. I even got to where I reassigned the Memo h/w button to CryptoPad. <BR> Then, the problems. A crash, which might not have been due to CryptoPad itself, seemed to corrupt the CryptoPad data. The result of this was an ``out of bounds'' error and a Reset. Restoring the CryptoPad data cleared the problem, but I found the data easily corruptible by other apps. <BR> That was the big nit. The little one is the use of odd shortcuts, like Command-V instead of Command-P to paste. I admit it's more like the WinBlows commands, but it messes up folks like me who are accustomed to the standard shortcuts. #end#

I tried this program on the Handspring Visor and continued to use it for about a period of 1 week. One day, after starting the program, it gave me a fatal error and froze my palm completely. It continued to do this everytime I started it from then on. I deleted it, then re-installed it, which in the process lost all my secured data. After using it again for 3 days, it barfed all over me again with the same error, losing all my data once more. I'm staying out of this program from now on, and I advise all Handspring Visor users to stay the heck away from this program!

A nice program, but lack of interoperability with the builtin Memo Pad prevents me from giving it 5 stars. I really like/need the ability to sync my memos with the desktop, and I'm just not willing to give that up, even for something as cool as Blowfish.

Cryptopad makes a fair attempt at providing the one functionality that the Palm left out; simple-to-use privacy. While the use of the blowfish algorithm is commendable, I feel that it falls short in that one needs to constantly relock documents. I would give Cryptopad 5 stars if only I didn't have to relock the document each time I left it.
