I have a Sony Clie and the best thing about using FontHack123 is that I can make applications with no high resolution support run in hi-res by cheating! WARNING, you do have to read the instructions carefully so as to avoid the 'funny lines' problem as there is a correct way to apply the font.
Jeffrey Kaplan wrote at 11/16/2003
Cannot select symbol and LED fonts because their names don't display in FontHack, and no support from the developer. I got an autobot response saying that there is no more development or support for this product.

I failed to find any cyrillic fonts for fontHack123! How it happened that the russian developer of this fine soft did not include any cyrillic fonts???

For anyone interested, conflict I had was with ButSwitch. Removed that and FontHack works flawlessly.
David Littlewood wrote at 05/07/2003
Aplologies! I obviously had a conflict somewhere because following a complete refresh of software on the Palm, it is now working perfectly. Very happy with it.
David Littlewood wrote at 05/05/2003
You can use this to customise the font on the Palm and it does work with Palm Os 4.1. Unfortunatley, you have to reset the device each time you make changes with it. Also, you can set whatever font for each app but these settings are ignored. Still, it is free, which counts for a lot!

Wow. So many problems with this NIIIICE piece of software... Personally I have installed this on my CLIE 7160 (convinced by Lubak's fine work) and I was experiencing problems in both Planetarium (ugliness due to Hires incompatibility) and JPGView (slow loading)... but I found this GREAT ability within FH to disable itself for certain applications... now the system runs fine without having to install the larger XMaster or the XSetLoader (whatever it's called). Nice job with this hacks. Makes my CLIE more readable. Thanks Lubak too!

Does not look pretty on a Sony Clie T415. It puts funny stuff below characters.
Mike Monteleone wrote at 02/15/2002
This is a great freeware application that customizes your PDA. As a Sony Clie owner the Hi-Resolution Font for version 4.0c is an excellent addition. There is a slight problem with the Fonts when moving an application to the Memory Stick utilizing LauncherIII. I believe FontHack doesn't patch all the necessary OS functions. Anyway, still outstanding freeware.

Wow I never realized how changing fonts can really dress up your Palm desktop. I'm running font hack with Launch 'Em and it looks Fontastic!! Excuse the pun...I couldn't resist :)

When I said I was anxiously awaiting the next release to make FontHack 123 compatible with TealMaster, I didn't expect the update to come the SAME DAY! What fantastic support for a FREE product.
Mark Wager-Smith wrote at 05/01/2001
I've used FontHack 123 v2.2 for a long time and love it. The few missing features (like sorting the fonts and applications correctly and displaying a sample of the font for selection), were all included in this new version, so I couldn't wait to upgrade.
Unfortunately, I use TealMaster as my Hack manager because I feel its user interface and functions are superior to X-Master.
FontHack 123 does not work with TealMaster. The fonts simply won't change. No crashes...it just wouldn't work.
I've reverted back to version 2.2 and anxiously await the next release of this great product.

I've tested this on my Prism using modem sync (IR with my nokia 8290) and it seems to work fine. One problem, though, trying to use fonts to replace the symbol fonts, you can't read the name of the fonts, since those fonts don't have characters in them (and the names are drawn in the fonts.) I'm using Newfonts, with the standard fonts 2-6 (to replace the standard fonts). Great program, thanks for making it.

Big problem!
Version 3 is incompatable with all wireless operations.
If Fonthack is active even with the default fonts the Palm crashes when ever a program like Mutimail or Avantgo 4.0 tries to dial an ISP via a modem. (I am using a 6210 with IR) NB: The previous release of Font Hack is fine for this purpose. I am using Xmaster / OS 3.5.2 / Palm 3c.
Frankye Fattarelli wrote at 05/01/2001
I've used 2.0 version for a long time on my Visor Deluxe without any problem. This Hack is a must have for doc reading. (not to mention the quite huge quantity of fonts avaiable around the net)
Sandro Mancini wrote at 04/02/2001
Works just fine for me! Used it for a week under PalmOS 3.52. Now that I have upgraded my Palm Vx to PalmOS 4, it refuses to work! :( (that's why the fifth star is missing) Can an update be released fixing this?
Rainer Zenz wrote at 03/17/2001
OK. This is a delicate Hack. But it will never cause data loss if you know the famous "warm reset"! (Press Page Up button while resetting.) Then go to FontHack and press "Reset all". This should fix the problem and you can try again.
Nevertheless Fonthack should be updated to be more stable.
Jo Messick wrote at 02/01/2001
I was so excited when I saw the fonts in action....right until my Palm IIIxe crashed and I lost everything. This version was supposed to have corrected the crash issue but......I just got my Palm back up (thank god for Back Up Buddy!) and I installed the new Palm OS update patch, but to be honest, I am terrified of turning on FontHack.....
Bret Holmstrom wrote at 01/31/2001
This is an excellent idea, after all the system fonts do get boring quickly. Unfortunately, FontHack forced a total of 5 Hard resets during the few days I had it installed. Soft resets are not a big deal, but having to perform hard resets are a serious problem.

Absolutely fabulous software! As a designer I consider fonts to be of high importance for user experience. This hack works perfectly well with my Visor (I never had any problems). Spasiba Sergey!

I could cry! I have a Palm IIIxe. I used a previous version of FontHack and loved it. But it was a mistake to download and install FontHack 123 2.2. Everytime I install it my Palm has to be reset. I have uninstalled it, uninstalled all of my hacks and uninstalled Hackmaster, then reinstalled them all. None of my efforts worked. Could someone out there send me an older version or tell me where one can be found?
Peter Wang wrote at 07/14/2000
"Good" when it works. Mr. Gates' review that recommends turning on Fonthack last is a good one. I had it running on my Palm III via OS3.3 fine until it inexplicably crashed it. I then reinstalled it and so far (it's been a few hours now) it's running fine. BTW: you gotta check out Alpha Fonts collection! (download here at PalmGear HQ)
Holly Pike wrote at 07/06/2000
I have tried this hack at least 3 times with the same result each time. I install it, choose the fonts, and then it proceeds to crash my Palm Vx and prevent beaming. It was pretty frustrating trying to figure out why I could not beam. Then I disabled this hack and the palm worked beautifully. If you correct this, I would definitely use this program and promote it.
David Gates wrote at 07/02/2000
Works fine now with my PalmVx. I am running EVPlugbase and Palm's software fix for the damaged RAM(My new one is in the mail, you can not fix a hardware problem with software). I recommend that you make this the last hack to get turned on. Great Program, thanks for keeping it free.
Anthony Jameson wrote at 07/01/2000
This hack represents a simple but highly effective way to increase the usability of your Palm. You will be surprised how much more legible texts will be if you use better fonts. The difference is especially important for older Palms (up to Palm III), which have low-contrast screens.
The other reviews show that some users had compatibility problems, but the hack worked fine on my Palm III, Palm IIIx, and Palm IIIc.
Chuah Jun Wei wrote at 06/29/2000
Works perfectly great on my Palm Vx! Wonderful program to replace the dull original fonts with better ones!

Completely unacceptable...crashed my Visor 3 times, all 3 times requiring a hard reset and reloading software...should've learned after the first time...
Greg Pruitt wrote at 05/15/2000
Don't even bother with this one. I have now tried this aplication 3X over the course of many months. To say this app and my Palm Vx don't get along would be an understatement!
Robert Schechter Schechter wrote at 04/27/2000
This seemed to crash my Palm Vx when I tried this twice (with fonts.) It misdirected the
screen so that the recorded touch was about
a centimeter below the actual touch point. (I had to use a digitizer freeware to even reset it--I couldn't reach the command on the preferences utility) After two crashes, I'm afraid to try it again.

I am running OS 3.5 and a Palm IIIc and using
the latest version of HackMaster, version
0.91 dated March 29, 1998.
I also have DateBk3 installed and it works
with my "Palm IIIc readability fonts" like a charm.
Cheers.
Mike Comerford wrote at 03/05/2000
I couldn't get this one to work on a III using OS 3.3. I even changed the system extension utility in use (EVPlugbase or Hackmaster) and simply couldn't get it to run. This is on Calvins PGHQ FAQ list of incompatible products with OS 3.1, and it would seem rightly so.
I hope that that Sergey changes this one soon - the "original" fonthack which I used to have was brilliant. How about making it EVPlugBase compatible too ?
Angela Wilson wrote at 03/02/2000
Still a bit buggy...crashes several programs (like DateBk3). .Disappointing. I keep wondering where I can find the original FontHack...And even though its freeware, the author's splash screen comes up all the time. It's nag-ware without the cost..
Hal DeVore wrote at 02/19/2000
Not Handspring Visor compatible.
After installing FontHack 123 2.0 I was unable to perform a USB HotSync. Warm reset with no hacks cured the problem. I installed hacks one by one and USB HotSync failed when I both installed FontHack 123 2.0 AND installed the Tall Fonts that come with it.
Simon Mawson wrote at 02/15/2000
Maybe it's just me, but I can't make this work - except for the tall and very large fonts they just come out as square boxes. I am using Palm 3.3 on Palm Vx.
What I am after is smaller fonts than currently used by Pilot....if this can do I will be happy.
Bob Zambon wrote at 01/29/2000
Good all around hack - makes some reader programs that much better, as well as a Frotz. One problem though - it doesn't work with !pZip files at all. A modification so that it does would be great since many people !pZip their larger programs where this would be the most help.
