The desktop software becomes a very useful tool for the preview image handheld. The possibility to classify private images makes splashphoto a great images viewer.

SplashPhoto 4.33 works beautifully on my Garmin iQue 3600. I struggled with other picture viewers before I tried SplashPhoto. AcidImage 3.023 produced a garbage screen for 17 seconds upon loading. The developer, Red Mercury, wouldn't answer my emails for help. myAlbum 2.2 caused an immediate reset. SplashPhoto works flawlessly and plays music in the background to boot!

My preferred image viewer for my Treo 650. Splash Photo version 4.3 is upgraded for high resolution PDAs. What I particularly like is its ability to display .jpg files (which earlier versions didn't). Although this means that you can view your original .jpg files withouth converting them through the supplied Splash Photo desktop software, I have found that going through the conversion favourably produces very small file sizes and the square cropping provides a larger image to view on the Treo. This updated version also fixes the previous inability to manually advance a slideshow, which is convenient when you hand your Treo to a friend so they can progress through the images at their own pace. Splash Photo effectively turns my Treo 650 into a Photo iPod. I do recommend buying this programme.

I am looking primarily for a photo viewer that allows zooming on my Palm T3. While SplashPhoto seems good in many respects, the interface is clear and easy to use, it is not that much better than the bundled Photo viewer (which does not zoom). Unfortunately I am disappointed with how much zoom there is. A JPEG on the computer screen that can be zoomed into until you can see the pixel can only be zoomed between 2 levels on the PALM.

The performance is OK, The only critique is it's user's interface, if hold the pen on image can bring up menu, then much better. another weakness is when I enlarge (zoom) photo, always prompt me insufficient momery, (I use TT with 7MB free RAM), but competitor product (for OS5 only) doesn't has such problem. afterall this is a product worth for the money.

I upgraded to v 4.10 from an earlier version. It is awsome and well worth the cost. I no longer carry photos with me to get dog eared in my purse. This most recent version has the best desktop software I could imagine. You can: manipulate the categories, where the image is stored, and the caption of the photo, all from the desktop. Having the thumbnails to guide you is a great help. Adding and deleting photos is so easy. Frequently when I show off my photos, people express an interest in having a handheld. I consider this software to be one of my "couldn't be without it" features of my Palm. You won't be disappointed.

I think this is BY FAR the best photo viewer for the Palm OS. One of the disappointments I've had with my Sony NX70V is how slow it was to display pictures, especially if they were on the memory stick. This made everything work much better. The desktop interface is extremely cool in allowing you to control how you want to display the photos on your PDA. Good job with this one!

As I was. Due to a recent exchange of emails with the developer support staff, I've decided to update my last review: (1) VERY quick response from the developer, both on personal email to them and on the comments on this page, (2) Very helpful on supporting the Palm T3 issue. Apparently in order for the SplashPhoto application to work in Hi-Res+ mode, a couple of updated DIA files have to also be installed. SplashData even provided me with some links to the files. (3) They were courteous and friendly in their correspondence. In short, they have just re-earned a 5-star from me. And now I will be happy to upgrade from my old 3x version of SplashPhoto to 4.x. My thanks to SplashData.

Good software, relatively stable, and able to view most types of images on the handheld that you can put on it. However. It still is not able to take advantage of the Palm T3 Hi-Res+ screen. In short, you are still limited to a 320x320 resolution. If you own the 3.x version of this software, there is really no reason to upgrade. It's fluff-ware until it's upgraded to better utilize the hardware platforms that it runs on.

Even on a greyscale display, I couldn't ask for more than what this program provides. It's the latest addition to my paperless geocaching set of software, and one feature is helpful with that that I couldn't find with any other program that offered the same functionality... the ability to store pictures in the device's memory. I have a memory card, but the case tends to pop it in and out, esp. in the field, which turns on the unit and takes a chunk out of the battery life because of that.

Couldn't be easier to transfer pictures from the PC to a Palm device and view them. SplashPhoto has great VFS support hence sending them to an SD or another type of flash card is effortless. One can even run it from the SD card with PowerRun reducing its footprint on the device's RAM to zero (but loosing the slideshow autorun capability). Becomes a nifty portable photo album with slideshow capability on a hi-res handheld. Tried them all, and this is the most user friendly and best in overall quality and features. This is not a photo editor, and users should have one in their desktops if necessary. Great customer service and very responsive developer.

One point more..., it's better to add an option into the Desktop program to maintain the original file date after conversion. I believe most users may prefer to show the date of shooting rather than the date of conversion.

The fastest app opening JPG files I've tried on my OS4 machine. Beautiful interface for both the Palm app and the Windows desktop. But there are still some things that requre improvement. The first one is the date format it display difference from the settings in Palm Pref. The second one is the very limited degree of zoom range - nearly not useful. The final one is the inclusion of EXIF info of JPG files.

I was looking for better picture software than what came with my Zire 71, and felt like I'd tried all the competition before I came across SplashPhoto, which is by far the best! Very fast, even when loading images from memory card, a nice variety of thumbnail and zoom views, and good organization options. The only reason I don't give this software a 5 is that it's not completely compatible with the Zire 71's built-in software, and can lead you to believe your photo database has become corrupted. However Justin in their customer service department was very fast in helping me find a work-around to this problem (I first e-mailed him on a Saturday afternoon, and received a response within hours). Hats off!

I emailed SplashData some months ago and suggested that they might consider implementing zooming and panning features - as it then widens the appeal of their already slick SplashPhoto. Over the past 4 or 5 days the product has been transformed and each build improves on the last. Finally I have an JPG image viewer suitable for large, detailed maps and diagrams - with the ability to pan with stylus or navigator pad on Tungsten T. Although I hope SplashData implement a set & forget zoom mode - that doesn't eat your screen space - I am not robbing them of the 5th star - as this is SUPERB software today and will no doubt continue to improve further still during it's V4.xx life-cycle. Good work SplashData!

Very nice version with excelent desktop. I also liked the upgrade policy - $5 only. The pan feature is excelent, but I'd expect slider for zooming , also zoom buttons occupy to much space on the screen. It is also imposible to define the directory path on VFS for images, so initial scan takes long time.

Very good program. Loads images as fast as native jpg viewer on my Zire71 but also allows me the ability to zoom into a large image (something sorely lacking on the built-in Zire71 application). Also reads images from internal and external memory without problem. Why 4 stars only? When I move the application to the memory card and try to run it, it causes the Zire71 to crash - hard reset necessary.

Excellent Product! Pictures display blazingly fast and in great quality 16 bit JPG format on my Tungsten-T. Display is optimal in JPG format, not the native SplashPhoto PDB format (although the guide claims PDB to be quicker). JPGs are also about 1/4 the size of PDBs. By far superior to PhotoBase.

In my book the faster an image loads the better and this one beats AcidImage and PicturePlus which in their own rights are fast programs. But I gotta say this is the fastest when testing 320x320 jpg files copied to my SD card using a Tungsten T. I basically used the D-pad to go through a set of images as fast as possible. If you can sacrifice a few milliseconds and desire more features, I would go with the AcidImage, though their splash screens can be annoying.

Slow as molasses on my Zire71. Since the Zire71 has a built in camera, the native Photos app is about 20 time faster than SplashPhoto. I transferred some JPEG's to the SD card, and I could actually watch it build the image. The Photos app showed it in about a second and as large as possible. It also has most of the same functionality. This is definely not an app for Zire71 owners.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! Love this app. Coupled with my digital camera, I can now take pictures, then just plop the SD card into my Tungsten T, and immediately view the images with awesome resolution; And SplashPhoto is FAST. So why not 5 stars? Works great with JPG, but I can get high res TIF from my camera, and SplashPhoto won't display those.

Nice job. My biggest wish is to easier to delete images. Deleting images is kind of a pain. Each time you delete one it switches back to the top of the thumbnail list. My pictures do not have meaningful names, so I have to view the picture before I know which one to delete. I like the ability to drag and drop pictures from another app like Photo Explorer and drop them on to Splash photo's "pictures to add" box.

If you want to view images on your Palm then this is a must have. The desktop programme is easy to use and will send images straight to your Palm's MM card. The is no comparison to the no longer supported PhotoSuite Mobile Edition, which was supplied with my 5m05; SplashPhoto is just so quick!

It even got better. Compared to AcidImage this app is way better!!! It's faster and shows all the good images at a high quality! Only thing that could be added is the zomm function and maybe an ability to set different directories for browsing, but other than that! The company is very receptive to feedback (even implementing some of my suggestions!) and has greated a vastly superior product to "competitors" like PhotoSuite Mobile Edition and ACDSee Mobile. AcidImage is another tool worth checking out but I preferred the how SplashPhoto feels more like part of my Palm operating system in terms of performance (fast loading of images from internal memory) and look-and-feel of the interface.

I love the ability to view images on my m515 but the supplied software is photosuite mobile. This program was very frustrating. Images were unstable, disappearing or averaging at any time, and the speed is terrible - 48 seconds just to fire it up with 20 lo-res pictures on board! Hense my search for a better program. This is it! It is lightning fast, stable and there are no toolbars to shrink your image. True it doesnt have a zoom on the handheld image but I never used that anyway. I suspect that the zoom and hand functions on the photosuite have something to do with its image instability.

Referring to my previous post, I have been made aware that the .prc files are available at SplashData's website (as well as the desktop windows and mac versions). wrote at 09/14/2002
Three reasons this otherwise excellent software is marked down: 1. Lack of support for non windows platforms (I don't use the desktop software, so make the .prc available) 2. Cached jpg thumbnails should not have to be redrawn each time you scroll the screen. 3. During slideshow, the previous image should remain displayed whilst the next image is being decoded. if some of the above points ever get addressed, I'll buy.

SplashPhoto has a low learning curve! The Windows component automatically reduces your image to Palm-size. You can catagorize your photos just as you can catagorize your Palm programs-you can even re-catagorize and merge your photo catagories on your Palm. :) You can title and add coments to your photos and neatly move your photos onto your memory card. SplashPhoto meets all my needs very nicely. >^..^<

Major improvement in 3.02 (from 3.01). The desktop now has a tighter layout, and they brought back accurate screen size and flexible zoom controls. Also the conduit no longer freezes. John from Splashdata was very helpful at addressing my concerns, as well as bug hunting. I still want to see the ability to select which bit-depths are automatically included with each photo, so I can keep the size down on large photo collections. If they add that back in, I'll give it 5 stars. Otherwise, much improved. Thanks!

Sorry, but the latest version has taken 2 steps back. The splashphoto desktop (win2k) is much clunkier than the previous version. It lacks the zoom levels (I could zoom much closer before) and 12-bit images are 20K *bigger* than 16-bit images in the old version. And the new conduit is freezing during hotsync. I bought this at version 2.x, and it was pretty great. 3.01 feels like 1.0. Major bummer.

High Res support is a welcome addition (images look much better), but the software still has a couple of irritating flaws. It supports private photos but requires you to exit the program to change setting to view private photos. Will not load images directly to memory stick (supposed to per program and documentation, in palm os 4 or greater, which my Sony n610 uses). It does show all images seamlessly whether on memory stick or internal memory, a nice touch.

I am so glad to see such a good product get even better! I had SplashPhoto ever since I had my old IIIe and loved it, but when I eventually moved to my Hi-Res Sony I was disappointed that the images weren't 320x320. As an Artist I wanted to show the best quality images possible so I struggled with the bloated and complicated default image viewer. Now I'm glad my patience paid off, and the best image viewer is back and better than ever. SplashPhoto is the easiest to use, requires the very little RAM and is extremely versatile. It was definately worth the wait, if I didn't get a free upgrade I would gladly pay again!

It's Mac compatible!!! For graphic designers/artists like myself, this would make a good makeshift portable portfolio. If you bump into someone in your field, impress them on the spot - you'll never know where that can take you. And on a personal level, storing photos in your handheld is a nice thing to be able to do; friends were amused by the slideshow I put on. Transferring photos from your Mac or PC desktop to your handheld is very simple. You can attach notes to the photos so you'd remember details like dates, names, where the photo was taken, etc. There's not much more to say...try it out for yourself and see what I mean. I'm not surprised SplashPhoto (and SplashWallet) have been getting rave reviews and is continually deemed as bestsellers by many. It's a steal at $9.95. Kudos to the SlashData team for churning out a fantastic, reasonably priced photoviewer.

Owners of hires Sony devices that came with picture gear, save your money. This software only adds one capability over picture gear and that is to be able to designate images as private (which handles images according to settings of standard palm security). The image file sizes are much smaller than with picture gear also, but the price you pay is in image quality. The images with this software are low resolution and the difference is very obvious.

SplashPhoto is fairly good but I have two complaints. First, SP does not support Global Find function. This is disappointing to me since I have been using LinkerHack and linked addresses and Photos. Second, SP does not support my TRG Pro normally; I can store an internal image to the CF card but the name of card appears as a gibberish. It does not produce any practical matter, but anyway looks abnormal. I want to be fair, SplashData said that they are not supporting TRG Pro officially, so it is not their mistake, and all other functions of SP are faster and more convenient than AlbumToGo I have been using.

Absolutely stunning piece of software. I have tried (and registered) several photo graphics programs for the Palm. I've removed all of them, now that I've found SplashPhoto. Extremely fast. Adding photos from the desktop is a breeze. I created a photo database of over 200 students in minutes, installing them seamlessly on the SD card and taking up no memory on the m505 itself. SplashPhoto is an excellent "flash card" program for learning their names and faces. This is the one to get!

The speed is excellent, even on SD/MMC memory cards. It makes using my m505 as a photo album feasible. It is intelligent enough to use a pre-created cache file, so that one could access images stored on a SD/MMC very quickly (1-2 seconds). The only drawback is that only 160x160 are stored and no zooming facility is provided. It would be cool if someone could click on a photo to view the enlarged or higher resolution version.

WOW! This is some great software. I love how I can set the palm to do a slide show using Splash Photo. It is software just as this, which has helped me to decide to invest in a color palm. Overall, Splash photo has everything I could wish for, but it is lacking one significant feature. I would have liked to have seen them incorporate a screen capture image option, similar to the one in fire viewer, so I could get maps and other pictures off the internet using one easy click. Oh well, hopefully this feature will be added in future updates.

This is an excellent program, DEFINITELY worth having. The one main issue is that, as a previous reviewer mentioned, the image quality isn't as good as, say, ImagerX. The images aren't sharp enough. It'd be just about perfect if a sharpen option was added to the desktop program--and also a gamma option. Other than that, though it's great.

This is the update I've been waiting for!!! Support for external cards on the m500 series! Wow. The Desktop app gives the option to install direct to card. The handheld app gives the ability to easily move from memory to card. My *only* complaint is that the images are placed in the /palm/launcher/ directory on the card instead of an app specific directory. This means that reads of the card will have to weed through all the other stuff that gets installed to this directory by default. However, even with that consideration the program reads images on the card VERY FAST! I'd give this app 6 or more stars if I could.

Registered 5 minutes after installing, I was very impressed that the Mac software was Carbinized (OS X ready). This shows me that the development team is prepared to support the Mac in a serious way, already ahead of Palm on this one. I also like the fact that you have the option to install 3 resolutions (greyscale, 8bit and 16 bit color) in any combination you choose. This gives the user the most ability to manage their memory, I really appreciate that. I also bought SplashManey, BTW. Great developer!

So, without being able to fix it, decided to try Splashphoto. I would have given it a good review anyway, but since I'm a former Atg user, will give it an excellent rating. Main points are: much smaller program and much smaller picture files, and runs much faster and is easier to use. Although Atg was freeware, I will be registering a copy of Splashphoto very soon. This app is by far the best image album/viewer out there for the Palm!! I just recently got my M505 color Palm and the CD installer includes another app for storing and viewing color images, but I was disappointed that the software is not intelligent enough to scale an image down to an optimized size for the Palm. I.e., when I added a 250KB JPEG image, the file took up 250KB on my Palm!! By contrast, add a 250KB image into SplashPhoto and it intellegently makes the image an optmized 60KB size (16-bit color)!! So... not only odes this software rock- works fast and stable, and does what it says- but it also saves alot of RAM space on your device by picking the most appropriate size. AND, it can make grayscale versions so you can beam them to friends who aren't lucky enough to have a color Palm ; ) If you really want to carry around images on your PDA, this is the only app you should plunk down your cash for!! My money is coming to you guys. Thanks so much for making this and thanks especially for making a Mac version too!!!

This is by far the best image viewing product available for the Palm OS. Picture quality is superior to others. Installation is transparent. Features are intuitive. And performance rocks!

This is one of the first image viewers with 16-bit color support. Also, when converting an image, you are given an option to build in support for other color/grey modes so that you can beam those images (if you choose to share) to other users, ie: I have a handspring visor prism, and I can now share converted pics with friends who run the original Palm III, or Palm V, or even the Handspring Deluxe. This program is also stable. No complaints. The thumbnail view is an awesome addition to imageviewers on the handheld. My only real complaint (and I'm going to try the recent update to see if it fixes it), is that when viewing on a HS Prism, in 16-bit color mode, the pics look a little "fuzzy". I'm not sure if it's the pixels on the screen itself, or the software. I'll have to see after the update. Overall, excellent software. I too will be registering this (provided the minor feature is fixed). Don't like getting headaches from looking at pictures. :)

This is by far the best picture viewer I have seen. I have use 3-4 others and this is the best. I love the thumbnail, individually and the slide show. It has all that I am looking for. Thanks for the cool program. My money is also on it's way.

This far and away the best picture viewer I have seen for Palm OS. Pictures look awesome on my Prism. The multipicture preview mode alone makes it a great program, and the picture quality, in my opinion, is better than Fire Viewer. Way to go! This will be the first Shareware program I will actually buy!!
