TealDoc version 6.64 fixes the problem I explained in my earlier review. If you configure "Screen Taps" to "Select word", it now selects words with foreign accents correctly. To look a word up in BDicty you have to select the word, give a command stroke, and tap the BDicty icon. I've asked TealPoint to include "Lookup word" as an option in "Screen Taps". Then you could tap a word and it would go directly to BDicty (without having to give a command stroke).

I mainly use TealDoc is for reading books in foreign languages I'm learning. Since I have to look up a lot of words, TealDoc's ability to look up words in BDicty should be great. However it doesn't work smoothly. I reported the problems to TealPoint 5 months ago but they are still present in the latest update. I got tired of waiting and just bought a Spanish dictionary for eReader Pro, which can also read doc files. I discovered eReader Pro looks up dictionary words beautifully, and there are many dictionaries to choose from. My advice is to get eReader Pro, not TealDoc if you plan to read languages with accents. I'll explain the problem with TealDoc.There are two ways to make it look up selected words. One is to configure TealDoc to look up words you tap on. However, this doesn't work on words with accents. For example, if you tap at the start of the Spanish word "señores" it tries to look up the word "se". If you tap after the accent, it tries to look up "ores". TealDoc thinks accented letters are like the spaces that separate words, so it will never select a complete word that contains an accent. There is a second approach, but it doesn't work either. You configure TealDoc so you can highlight any characters you want. Now you can highlight a whole word including accented letters. However, TealDoc doesn't think this is a word, so you have to use a menu command to get it to look up your selection in BDicty. The problem is that TealDoc always puts a space before the first letter of the word it gives to BDicty. You cannot select just the letters and not the space in front of them. Hence, the word is never found in the dictionary until you edit it in BDicty and eliminate the space. I frequently look up hundreds of words when read Spanish literature and having to edit out the space every time is very annoying. Now that I've switched to eReader Pro, I'm much happier. In all other repects, TealDoc is an excellent program. I think it still deserves 5 stars.

First of all, Tim Zukavman's comment about TealDoc only being able to read documents is misleading. One can, most certainly, create new documents in TealDoc, either in PalmDoc format or Plain Text from the Documents Menu/ New Document option or by graffiti /N. I am a very satisfied user of TealDoc and can heartily recommend it. It is very easy to use even with all of the useful options available, including a certain degree of file management similar to Teal Mover, which is also excellent. The developers are clearly doing their best to make all of their softwares the best they can possibly be and are very keen on constuctive feedback re improvements. Use of Teal Version Master included in this package ensures that this and other Teal programs can always be kep fully up to date, either by manual updates or recular scheduled searches for updates. Within their interest in feedback, Tealpoint, via an email discussion list, offers users the opportunity to share ideas for improvements to existing sofwares as well as developments of new useful softwares. Within the limits that PalmOS provides they are obviously open to new innovations where ideas are birthed for future developments. I have used most of the other word procession programs, but find this one the most smooth, reliable and easy to use of all of them.

This app I have to admit is awesome! I WAS using Word To Go and kept having a great amount of annoying problems and it took up wayyy too much space on my NX. I found TealDoc and I deleted Word To Go in an instant. Though you can't write your own documents (which I wasn't doing with Word To Go anyway) I can at least read the "e-Books" I had without hassles. It reads of the memory stick or ram which Word To Go did a crappy job of doing. Anyhow if you are looking to JUST read books then this is the app for you! IT also loads pretty fast and you can at least flip the pages in 90 degree angles. I really enjoy this app....

TealDoc is an excellent doc reader and an essential program for those of us who have a lot of Palm Docs and want to manipulate (rename, delete, move, bookmark) them. TealDoc also reads native text files. Correcting the previous review: (1) TealDoc is NOT 43K. The current version is 230K. It can be run from an expansion card and/or invoked via PowerRun, TealAlias and add-on launchers, if desired. (2) TealDoc does not replace PalmReader if you have books/reference materials in that format. I'd like to see TealDoc support all major document types including PalmReader and MS Word documents. This would keep us from having so many readers and taking up space on our Palm OS devices.

Skeptical about another Document Reader eating up my precious RAM, with my constant craving for software testing, I decided to to try TealDoc. Initially, it did not appear indispensable - that is, until I accidentally deleted it a couple of weeks later! You never know the value of anything until you lose it! Compared to the Palm Reader's hefty 225 KB, TealDoc occupied a measly 43 KB. For such a small program, it is amazing! As someone else has commented, the Swiss Army Knife or "Rolls Royce" of Readers, TealDoc has a long list of features (layout, speed, shortcuts, fonts, graphics, memory) and the best two things about it - besides having very pleasant interface, is the ability to sort by categories. and to NOT leave any bytes in the RAM. WIth many other Readers, you find bits occupying as backup reference footprints eating up the RAM - bit by bit. TealDoc is clean and reads off VFS on the external card; besides, it scans extremely fast (you can speed this up by manually setting the directory path). The scrolling is not too great (there is no Reader that has mastered this one yet) and the centre select button on the TT is programmed to toggle the toolbar - thus, taking control of the normal features (I found this a bit irritating - my ZLauncher lost its control to TealDoc). Once you return to the Menu items in TealDoc, it hands over this control back to the Launcher. I uninstalled the Palm Reader and saved a huge amount of RAM. To make things even better, there are many Teal Documents available besides the desktop application that is bundled with the TealDoc to convert most documents into either Palm Docs or Teal documents. TealPoint has repeatedly proven their ability to produce superior applications along with excellent customer service. This one has made it to my TOP FIVE Palm Essentials List.

Would have been 5 stars if smooth scrolling was "smooth" scrolling. It actually scrolls better if you turn off smooth scrolling. Other than that it is excellent software and still my favorite for reading ebooks.

A very decent and competent reader. My only complain is with the font support on Clie's HiRes mode. I find the anti-alias & tiny font support for the "normal" 160x160 Palm models very nice and pleasant. However, when I upgrade to Clie SJ30, the anti-aliasing and the tiny fonts support are gone, leaving me with 3 standards fonts, which is very unpleasant for ebooks reading for my taste. Find a way to implement the anti-alias & tiny fonts in Clie's HiRes, and you have 5* AND my order!

Generally a good reader. Warrants 5 stars but for the fact that "smooth scrolling" is not technically smooth (as is the case with some other readers in the market) - it's still jerky). Otherwise would be a first class programme.

I have tried out probably almost all DOC readers and I ended up using TealDoc on all my Palms. Need I say more? Paul [a fellow Palm developer]

Potentially a five star program. Two flaws that cost it a star each. 1) Extremely slow indexing doc stored on external media, and re-indexes everytime you close a doc. (However, most other doc readers don't even support external media at all) The other doc readers that do support external media are much faster. 2) Does not let you bookmark documents stored on external media. Gives a "read only" error message. Other doc readers do allow bookmarks on such docs. I'm still looking for the doc reader I'll spend my money on. This one comes close. A side note, I don't know where I'd find doc with TealPaint images in them, other than the demo, unless I created them myself.

Basically, not many softwares even get the 5 star rating from myself. But this one I gotta give. I must say, that when I last tried it, it was in the 3.x revisions, and I'd must say I wasn't too impressed and went with another doc reader that allowed me more flexibility. But at version 4 levels, its got most of the features I could ever ask for in a document reader and I think, the continual improvements that have been made no doubt make Tealpoint world class in Palm software development.

This is the most fantastic e-text software I have tried. Not only have the features been rich from the start, but they have taken requests for software enhancements and integrated them into the next product release. The product is faster than a lot of other readers and has more controls to the way the text is scrolled and displayed.
The other thing people might not know about TealPoint is that they are very responsive to technical problems that their customers report. It has been a common experience on my part to find an update that resolves a problem I reported in less than 48hrs. That to me is a major selling point for their company.
Major kudos on this product and the support!

From a seasoned palm user, this is amazing! I can't wait to do more with it, like create a website for viewing on the palm with knowledge of how it will come out. I don't know if that's what it's for but it sure seems like a great application to use with photoshop, etc. Exciting! And what a great price!

This is the very best program I have used for my palm. With the additional desktop software package that allows conversion of .txt files to palm docs, you can read anything you want on your palm! Do not leave home without it!

I think this is the best e-books and doc reader so far! The features added with v4.01 complete the package, making TealDoc worth every penny you paid. The ability to control the autoscroll speed and the smooth scroll are very nice. I cant see what you can need more from doc browser. The only thing that i can think off is the support for iSilo format, which provides greater compression. Its a must for every palm!
