Short description for TurboPOP (BETA) 1.0: TurboPOP speeds up the download of POP3 messages, and is intended for peopleon the move who retrieve e-mail to a Palm device or laptop using a slowconnection such as a mobile phone.TurboPOP is a POP3 proxy that sits on a server between your device and yourreal POP3 server. It can result in data throughput reductions averaging 65%!This is reflected in shorter calls, lower call costs and longer battery lifeon your device and your phone! It's written in Java so it should work for all platforms - no software isneed on your Palm device except for your normal POP3 client application.TurboPOP needs to be running on a server that you can reach through yourdial-up connection. We recognised that most people use e-mail on the move for short textmessages and with this in mind, there are quite a few optimizations we canperform "on the fly". It is this kind of user that will see the greatestbenefits."...checking your e-mail while on the move was made a reality with Palmdevices. The problem is that to be truly mobile you are tied to a 9600bpsmobile phone. So, we set about applying the 'less is more' pardigm tooptimizing mail downloads. Now with TurboPOP running on our server, I can goon holiday and check my e-mail in half the time I did before. It's likehaving a portable 14,400 modem or better. We're still in BETA, but theinterest we have received has prompted us to release it now..." - Marc Palmer, Director of AnyWare Ltd.About AnyWare Ltd.:
