Worldmate v9.4 I've used it forever on Sony Clie & now a Palm Tungsten. Works great & couldn't live without the packing list. Do you ever feel like you are forgetting to pack something - not anymore! The Area Code lookup is a bit weak since it doesn't describe the area and only has a few cities in each code.

It updates the curren t money conversions, gives you clothing conversions, check lists for trips, world clock. I love this program and recommend it to anyone who has family in other states or countries. You have to get this program to truly appreciate the ability of it.

I've used Worldmate and Worldmate Pro for several years now. Overall, it is a very good product, but as many have already stated, it isn't without its flaws. Some of the time zones are wrong. Kathmandu for example is +5:45 GMT, and Worldmate has that wrong. Mumbai is also wrong, and while Worldmate does allow you to fix this, this problem has been inherited by every version of Worldmate since its inception. I have written to them a few times about this, and all I have had in response is that they "are aware of the problem". Another problem that seems to be unique to this program is how it counts the seconds, and how the seconds hand moves on the clocks. The animation is NOT smooth, not by any stretch of the imagination. I have been assured that this doesn't affect the Palm's clock: i.e., it doesn't make the Palm lose or gain time by counting the seconds in this bizarre manner, but none of the other World Time Programs seem to have this problem counting the seconds. Also, although the Atomic Clock Synch is nice, it doesn't include an auto-disconnect, so once you use it, you have to either switch to another program to auto-disconnect, or shut off the smartphone manually (if you are using a palm-powered phone or smartphone) to disconnect from Atomic Synch. This flaw has also made it into every version. Overall, it is a good product, but with a litte EFFORT from its creators, it could be an excellent one! One extra feature I wish it did have is a countdown timer: this would allow me to delete a secondary application I use JUST for that...

I am a registered user but have had several problems with the program. After the trial period was over and I made the decision to purchase (something I don¿t normally do on the Internet) I found MobiMate send the wrong code. I wrote to them explaining the situation and they sent me the right code and billed me a second time. I got the money back after several e-mails.
The product works well normally ¿ apart from one instance where it wouldn¿t open and repeatedly crashed my Clie. I eventually restored the program and all is well. The weather updates are good but I find that certain cities will not update at certain times of the day ¿ must be a time-zone conflict from my location.
Generally a good program but not without its problems.

This product, when working as advertised, is an indispensable aide when travelling abroad. It is worth the price just for the currency conversion utility. The displays are dazzling. I particularly like the clocks, since I need to keep track of three time zones. The world map, with night and day, is simply very cool. The packing list is so exhaustive and thoughtful, I wouldn't leave without using it. Unfortunately, in the middle of a trip abroad, the product unregistered itself and would no longer accept the code given at purchase. You can still use it, but the registration screen ticks through the number of times used 'without registration' before opening, which obviously lengthens each time you use it and is truly infuriating if you bought the product legitimately and rely on it. Were it not for this, I would give it five stars.

Worldmate is the flashiest travel/time utility I have ever come across. It is a very good contender to CityTime and I'd say it could de-throne it as the time/travel utility of all PDAs if I was able to use it a bit more... As the previous reviewer states, the evaluation period is WAY too short. I installed it at midnight one night. At 9am, the evaluation finished...Err...I was able to start it up twice only.
Richard Smith wrote at 03/14/2004
Without repeating the many good upgrade suggestions already given here, I'll say it's a good, useful program, but its evaluation period is WAY too short! I could give it another star if it were more customizable, and took up less memory, and had an evaluation period of at least 30 days. (I haven't found any documentation of the exact evaluation time period anywhere, but it seems that it's only 24 hours!)

I am a registered user of this application, and I do like it. But, I received an e-mail for a $4.95 upgrade fee to get full 480*320 support. Their "support" merely supresses the DIA area on a T3 with an UGLY white box. The extra screen real estate is not used in any way. Try before you buy!!!

This software has many interesting features, some of which may be more of interest than others. With their new split screen image it would be nice if users could pick and choose those functions that are seen such as the conversion program or currency converter or clothing size converter.
Emily Li wrote at 12/09/2003
This is an excellent piece of software that cleverly groups together information for travellers such as the weather, currency conversion ... etc.
Some suggesttion to make this even better - with the Time Calculator, when you try to select a different city, you are restricted to scrolling thru the lengthy drop down menu to choose the city you want - it would be much better if you can use graffiti to write the first letter of the city name, and it will jump to that section of the list. Also, it would also be nice to choose a date into the future in the Time calculator (e.g. you may be a couple of days away from DayLight Savings Time in one of the chosen cities, so one needs to specify both the date and time to get the correct time for all cities you are interested in). There are other program such as aclock that does a very good job for pure date/time zone calculation, but I think this is a good valued package for the many features it offers.
Eduardo Kasper wrote at 12/03/2003

This program is very large (around 490KB excluding MathLib) when compared with others, yet it is impressive for its functionality and user-friendliness. If you do not want its day-night time display (its rather ugly, actually), simply do not install MathLib. The conduit has some options that many people don't know: it has a "Update Palm time" and "Update PC time" feature to update the PC and Palm clocks during HotSync. Its "Online update every xx hours" feature keep me from syncing WorldMate more than once a day. On the whole this program is rich in features, and if the program can reduce a bit in size I would even give it six stars.

also, although I synch daily, there is a 20 cent difference in the rates for MXN you post compared to the real rate.this did not happen with the previous version of worldmate i bought.

Great program for frequent traveler with some especially nice features like the weather, currency exchange & atomic time updates. But, as other mentioned, no added cities get weather forcasts -- a big minus. Further, when I wrote to developer about a question I had with the time feature, I received no reply. But for this apparent lack of support, this programs would warrant a 4 star review.
Thomas Tamayo wrote at 12/17/2002
Not a bad app, but... the weather in Rhode Island doesn't match that of Boston nor NYC. You can't get weather for cities you add. I have the same problem for VT (Burlington) where my parents live. There should be many more cities in the USA - after all, this is where at least 75% of the people that purchase this product are probably from!
Michael Kelley wrote at 12/12/2002

Adam Snyder wrote at 12/12/2002
In seach of the ideal international time zone program for my Palm IIIx, I keep finding myself returning to WorldMate. Favourite features of this intuitive, visually pleasing software include its ability to graphically--as well as textually--display between 2 to 4 clocks (in addition to one for the user's home time zone); a "time calculation" feature among five simultaneous user-defined cities; and a four-day weather forecast (through The Weather Channel)--the latter two of which can be updated daily via HotSync.
Although I'm generally very pleased with WorldMate, a major drawback with it for me is its size (274KB of RAM, v9.0), in line with its increasing features. With my IIIx near the end of its available memory (even after using FlashPro), I need to reserve space only for the essentials. And although WorldMate's range of utilities might otherwise be welcome, all I really need is its world time interface, as I prefer other software for some functions (i.e., currency and measurement conversion, packing list, etc.), rendering parts of the program redundant.
Some suggestions for MobiMate are to either package WorldMate's numerous components as optional plugins for users to install as required, or to offer a stripped-down "lite" version for those who can't spare the extra memory. On another point, I agree with one reviewer who commented that a "distance between cities matrix" is a basic but essential requirement that's conspicuously lacking in a program of such scale as WorldMate.
adam heinig wrote at 12/08/2002
this is truly an essential programme. I've had worldmate from the beginning, and their latest offering really includes everything that a travelling businessman like me could desire - world times, exchange rates, dialling codes, packing lists, weather reports - the lot ! (not to say that their online support is #1 - NIR GALILEE !!)
An essential with a capital E.
alan tan wrote at 11/28/2002
As much as Worldmate is capable of, it still does not have a distances between cities matrix, which I'd consider is a basic function for an application of such magnitude.

Wireless update works perfectly on my handspring treo, and I am amazed at the speed. I added custom currencies and even they update. Have experienced none of the problems listed. I can't think of anything this program needs. A big 5*'s for this one.

I've received the web address from tech support that worldmate uses to update the weather and I can see this in Internet Explorer yet worldmate still does not refresh the weather nor does it relay any errors in the hotsync log. A quite usefull program for travellers yet support for bugs/fixes seems to extend only so far.
Mike Synowiec wrote at 09/18/2002

Atomic time sync sets palm time back one hour. Emailed tech support, they told me to turn of DST in palm preferences. That didn't work, so I emailed them back and have received no further response. Have experimented with various settings for the DST switch, but it still screwes up my local time by one hour. Much better to be a few minutes early or late for appointment than a full hour, so I have disabled that feature. Will delete program when demo runs out unless time syncing is fixed.
Jack Johnson wrote at 07/18/2002
Lots of useful information for the traveler. Love the weather, but wish additional cities could be added for weather reports. Love regularly updated currency rates. Love automatic sync of time with atomic clock. Why only four stars? The atomic clock sync seems to disregard DST switch and sets palm clock back one hour, resulting in having to remember to manually adjust the hour. The atomic clock sync seems to correctly adjust the pc's clock (if you select that option). The other wish would be a high res version for color Sony devices. As another reviewer mentioned, it would be nice if it included a database of information on selected cities or countries. Fix the atomic clock sync, and it would be five stars, even without the other wishes.

This is the best travel program I have found, yet it does have one problem.
I have discovered a bug in Worldmate 8.1 and know how to work around it, but it should be fixed. Here is the problem: In other world clock programs I have on my Sony Clie (Plam version 4.10), such as "World Alarm Clock" (which comes with the Clie) or CityTime (which is a popular download from PalmGear), as soon as one resets the time zone in the Palm preferences, the clocks in the other zones change their HOME time zone to match the new default zone set in the Palm. This means that the time in the original zone remains correct relative to the new home time zone. So, if one looks at CityTime, one will see the correct time for the old home location, and the correct time for the new city.
<BR>
In Worldmate, this does not happen. To give an example: I live in EDT (Pittsburgh). If I travel one time zone to the West, to CDT (Chicago) and reset the Palm CDT as the default zone, the other time clocks recognize that my old city, Pittsburgh is one hour later than Chicago and retain Pittsburgh time correctly. In Worldmate, this does not happen and now Pittsburgh is shown as one hour earlier than it really is. In order to get Worldmate to have the right times, you ALSO must reset Worldmate's home clock to show that the home time zone has been changed from Pittsburgh (EDT) to Chicago (CDT). Only then are the times correct.
<BR>
This bug should be fixed since other time clocks recognize that when the Palm's time zone is changed, that the home time in the clock program should change too.

I was very excited to read that WorldMate offered updated currency rates every time you hotsync, a necessary tool in my line of business. But upon purchasing the software, I find that the conduit software is only available for Windows, not the Mac. Downloading the current rates is good but not great. I wish the developer had made this clear on their sites so I would have been able to make a more informed choice of software.

Personally, I would also like a section where you can enter in your travel arrangements (ie. flight number, connections, etc.). Recently, I paid more for the latest version (8.0.1) so that I could have the weather forecast function but alas to my chagrin, they do not have conduits for Mac users. Once again, Mac users are faced with a wall...
Emma Dalton wrote at 11/16/2001
Pros: Great currency converter, world time and unit conversion screens.
Cons: If you use the currency hotsync, you must install each upgrade twice, since the first installation will update the software but the currency hotsync will cease working. Only after a second install do you get the upgraded program and a working currency hotsync.
Philippe Radley wrote at 11/12/2001
This is what the traveller needs, a world clock that uses a map intelligently: tap on a city and see it on the map. The conduit makes currency updating automatic and allows the presentation of current weather forecasts. The graphics are outstanding. Highly recommended.

The time zones were great, I never pissed off my parents by calling at the wrong time, and the clothes sizes allowed me to figure out what I was buying without having to try on everything in the store. I would like to see some expansion of the world map...i like the idea of population, language and other facts about the large cities. A good stable program, but not enough features to qualify as a one-stop reference for travel and world related information. It would be nice to have such features as a world country database with each country's capital, big cities, area, population, languages, currencies, and a more meaningful clickable world map. If it gets these features in addition to the currently existing ones, it will be overall a really wonderful application.

Worldmate has made tremendous improvements since the early versions. Now it basically can do what many programs can do, but all in one place. I can now do without separate currency convertors, unit convertors and worldtime clock. One of the most useful features is updating of currency rates during hotsync, but the frequency of update could be improved. All in all, well done!
Bruce Clarke wrote at 12/06/2000
Although this is an excellent program, it still does not handle the transitions between standard and daylight time satisfactorily. There is a 24 hour period spring and fall during which cities in the far east switch their time, followed by cities in Europe, the Americas, and finally the eastern Pacific. WorldMate ought to switch each city at the appropriate time (usually 2 or 3 AM) in each city's time zone. Instead, WorldMate waits roughly 1 day after the last city has switched its time. Then a menu pops up asking you which time is correct -- your current Palm time, or another time that has been corrected for the time change. WorldMate only turns on or off its DST correction at that time. Hence, world times can be wrong roughly 4 days out of the year. Also, the user cannot tell whether WorldMate has applied a DST correction to a city or not. There should be a DST icon.

I love World Mate--have been using for more than a year--but the new v4.5 is a bit maddening when it comes to currency conversion. For Euro-based currencies, it's quite difficult to put in the day's conversion rate (all sorts of warnings appear). I don't care if a currency is Euro-based; I just want to be able to easily put in the current rate. This is annoying. Otherwise, I love it, and, by the way, metric conversions are FULLY supported.
