Very good replacement for the built in memo pad, more functional. Easy to use with the shortcut buttons. The only needed feature is support for the Clie 320x320 resolution. This is more important now that Palm has choosen that resolution as standard for OS 5.

Where is a over five stars button?:)
Wow! This is a well-thought-out editor! I can replace the peditPro with built-in memo perfectly.<BR>
Ofcause, I already assigned to a hardware button and call the peditPro directly.<BR>
The peditPro doesn't reduce the screen field compare with built-in memo pad.
It will be you can get easy and an intutive operation moreover a powerful editting at the same time.<BR>
Great job! Paul.

This is by far the best text editor for the palm. I used Documents To Go, and I liked the fact that you can send the files to a word processor, but it was too slow, and pedit pro has a ton more useful features. this program is lightning fast, especially if you own a Keyboard. On that note, If you do own a keyboard, the two programs that you absolutely must get are pedit pro and laptophack (pedit is good enough, but pedit pro is the best).

I hate to cut into Palmgear's business but you need just two additional apps--Pedit pro and Laptop hack. These two apps turn your Palm into a true computer, far more powerful than your laptop! These are the most stable, innovative programs that I know of. I can't recommend them highly enough!

peditPro is, bar none, the most useful piece of software on my Palm handheld, offering a wealth of features sorely lacking in the built-in Memo Pad. When combined with a keyboard, peditPro really shines, offering a professional text-editing environment that anyone serious about editing on the handheld simply cannot do without. peditPro is ideal for writers, programmers, journalers, or anyone who wants to comfortably and efficiently edit large amounts of text on the go. There is a little something for everyone in this program: text sorting, improved searching, superior memo organizing, keyboard-based text manipulation (never a need to reach for the stylus to highlight text), conversion to and from standard Doc format, and even powerful scripting for automation of complex or repetetive tasks. peditPro is the Swiss Army knife of Palm OS text editors, packing versatility and power into a truly amazing program.

********** (This is my way of giving peditPro 10 stars.) If you are serious about using the PalmOS, you can't afford *not* to get this Memo Pad replacement. I have been using the peditPro full-featured text editor ever since I got my Palm; I could not live without it. Now, with its scripting capability, peditPro has revolutionized my ability to do things quickly and efficiently -- with or without a keyboard. If you can do it manually, peditPro's scripting can automate it. If you have a Palm Portable or GoType keyboard, it gets even better with peditPro's recently introduced Quick Script Activation. With just two keystrokes, you can start any script; the automation possibilities are endless! (See also LapTopHack -- Paul Nevai's other amazing invention! It picks up where the PalmOS left off.)

This gem just keeps getting better and better. It has always been the best text editor for the Palm OS, but now it is evolving into a very powerful script and macro editor with its own built in language. Along with Paul's other killer app, LapTopHack, you can make your Palm OS handheld do more and more very useful and interesting things, with or without a keyboard. Such as writing a macro to exit peditPro, run a calculator app, input data from your memo, get an answer and then put it into the memo you are working on.I have been using both peditPro and LTH for over a year now and I would not be without them. They are truly indispensable.

I've been using this fabulous program for about a year now. It has evolved rapidly and consistently, and is now far beyond the simple memoPad replacement that I needed 12 months ago. It's still the powerful editor that I wanted, but the newest scripting features are positively amazing. You can actually automate almost every possible function of the pda itself, especially if you also use the companion LapTopHack. This is one very impressive program

Did you ever try an app that started your mind's wheels spinning? ("Hey, maybe I can try *this* with it"). That's pedit.
This is one (ok, several) amazing editor(s). The learning curve is a flat ramp; you really don't need to learn anything to start; just do what you do in memo pad! It's unfair to call this a "memo pad" replacement, it is equivalent in the same way DOS EDIT.COM relates to something like WordPerfect 5.1.
To summarize; you get a great variety of fonts, awesome keyboard support, *macros*, DOC EDITING, *virtually no file size limits*, a frenzied user base and a tremendously active developer!
One of the best parts of pedit is LapTopHack. Once you get used to a few editing speedups you can apply them to any text field. I was looking for a mail replacement until I realized I virtually stumbled across what I wanted.
pedit is the authors "baby". He nurtures its development (and its users) carefully. That alone is well worth the registration price!
I really don't do a vast amount of text _entry_ (despite the appearance of this review), but when I do, it usually requires some advanced text manipulation selecting a group of words or lines, jumping hither and yon (I never get to say that) copying big chunks, moving text and so on. pedit is the powerhouse that lets me do that.
P.S. I also bought WordSmith. They only overlap very slightly. I wouldn't be without either if I could possibly help it.

Excellent program. I use it all the time for visit reports while installing computer inspection equipment. Compared to my old paper notebook I can cut and paste bits to appropriate other memos ready for e-mailing back in the office. As I work i often find that further investigation modifies the original notes I made. It's really easy with pedit. I couldn't live without it.

I've been using peditPro for a number of months now, and it is indispensable as a text editor. The best feature of pedit, however, is the author. He's extremely responsive to users' needs and problems. Once I started using pedit, it was impossible to go back to the standard memopad. New features in the beta versions (which are stable enough to be final releases) add to the functionality. (List-sorting and text moving are my two favorite new features.) It is hands down the best text editor available for the Palm platform. It works great with my GoType keyboard. Add LapTopHack into the mix, and I'm a happy boy. Keep up the great work, Paul.

I agree with all the wonderful reviews, but I didn't see any of them address the ease with which pedit allows you to write HotPaw Basic programs... As another user who cut my teeth back in the early 80's, I truly love the power these two programs give me. Pedit lets me jump around, copy and paste, indent automatically, etc., and then HotPaw Basic is able to read, and chain, programs contained in pedit32 files. Back in the days of the Commodore 64, plenty of words were written, and plenty of programs constructed. Pedit is better than the word processors available then, and is particularly well suited for programming. Simply put: It is GREAT FUN!

I've been using Pedit since a month after I first got my palm. Memo pad pales in comparison. The "hot" buttons make it worth while. Once I picked up on the basics, my palm writing became much more efficient. I don't remember the last time I used memo pad.
Good tool, worth it.

I have been using pEdit since April of 2000. I am a Drafting Consultant and must keep notes on the projects I work on. Paul's pEdit is a must. I can keep everything about a project in my Visor and have it with me when I need it. With his other fantastic program, LapTopHack, and my Stowaway keyboard I am set. pEdit is a must have for anyone that must keep large ongoing notes or write a large amount on their pda. Don't be put off by the complicated looking interface. With just a once over of the manual while you are using it the first time you will have the basics. Then it gets fun finding all the powerful stuff this program has in it. And last but not least, the support is fantastic.

The first time I tried peditPro, it was like de ja vu. It reminded me of the first time I tried to use Word Perfect for DOS (remember the all blue blank screen with just a bit of text on the bottom of the screen?). I was first scared because I had no idea what I could do with this program, and for the first time ever, I had to consult a manual! Slowly and eventually I realized all the power that lay behind that plain blue screen. It has been the same feeling with peditPro. My first impression had me confused, a bit worried, but at least, unlike WordPerfect, there were some buttons at the bottom of the screen!
Since then, I revisit the manual almost everyday and find something new I didn't know before. In fact, sometimes when I'm doing something, I wonder if there is a better way in the manual that I am not aware of.
Not only is this a great application, but the support is great and so is the pedit community. Couple pedit with a keyboard and Paul's awesome LaptopHack (would that be "triple", not "couple"?) and you've got all the editing power you'll need!
Charles Landau wrote at 12/01/2000
Pedit seems to be a good program, but I don't consider it "essential" unless you have a keyboard for your handheld and you often need to do editing away from your desktop. It takes some time to learn its many features. I'll stick with Memo Pad.

Although I don't use this program that much one thing is for certain: customer service is not totally dead in America. Paul is fast and responsive if you have any questions. This alone makes the product worth paying for. Read the other reviews. They all say the same thing. Every other software developer out there in the world today needs to take lessons from this fellow. Buy the program; it's good. By the way, here's a link to an eText for "Lord of the Rings" (mentioned below in a review. Big secret, eh?...took me all of 20 seconds on Northern Lights search engine. Use MakedocW to convert the files.
Ed Faith wrote at 11/07/2000
If you are serious about writing on your Palm, for example if you bought a keyboard for your Palm, then you probably will not be happy with anything less than one or another version of pedit. I don't think there is anything out there for the Palm that is remotely in competition with it.
Jared Chapman wrote at 08/29/2000
Now, I am just a begining user of this program, and I have to admit that I had a rough start. But Paul's willingness to help me get through it and understand really made the difference. If Palm could be as supportive and responsive as he was we would all be much happier and be able to do alot more with our Palm. Paul is my new best friend. Anyone who wants to use a keyboard with their palm or needs to work with doc files really should give this program a try. Paul has put alot of work and thought into its functions.
George Brink wrote at 08/23/2000
I have now had a chance to personally beat up PeditPro with Lord of the Rings and afterwards felt like I had 15 rounds with Mike Tyson (yes I got my ear chewed by Paul too, but it was worth it).
I cannot be satiated on the humble pie I must eat, but this program is truely deserving of more than the 5 stars I can allocate it
George Brink wrote at 08/23/2000
I have only just got my PPK and have not had the opportunity to "push the envelope" with Pedit and LapTopHack combined, but the reported 32K limit bothers me. I have edited Tolkein's Lord of the Rings in SmartDoc with a GoType keyboard and that tome weighs in at a hefty 1,5M, as you would expect, without any problem. A swift evaluation of PPK v1.1 indicates it will not have a problem either.
The personal evaluation I have given Pedit without using a keyboard indicate that this is a superb program for average to good users and well worth the registration fee asked. The only reason for withholding the 5th star is the reported size limit and this is only hearsay evidence I have not tried to push LotR through Pedit, but a file this size is completely unfair on any editor. It does after all take up nearly 25% of a Vx series Palm and 75% of a V series memory.
Before you ask - no you cannot get a copy of The Lord of the Rings from me as it is copyright material. How I got hold of it is my business and I have converted it for my own personal use and study purposes.
Steve Smith wrote at 08/23/2000
This is the pedit I've been waiting for. I have used both pedit and pedit 32 in the past but didn't register for the simple reason that I wanted them both, but couldn't afford to spare 500k. Unfortunaltly this problem has now been solved, so thanks to Paul I'm now going to be $32 out of pocket :-) But on the plus side I do get the ultimate palm memopad/doc editor there is. Another great version, unbeatable.
Christopher Ouk wrote at 08/23/2000
Excellent program. What more can I say? However, I would like to see some intergration of colors and perhaps a color icon would be very nice.
Harvey Gatlin wrote at 08/23/2000
Everything you need in a text editor, not to be confused with a word processor with tables, pictures, centered fonts, etc. Cut, paste, word count, jumps, *complete* external keyboard support (even things you thought could not be done), and the list goes on. Paul is very responsive to requests, so look into the user's group. I used to take my laptop to meetings, mainly for Microsoft Word, now my "laptop" fits in my pocket, keyboard too! The rating system needs an additional star for this one.
