  • Application Description
This emu is based on the excellent work of Marat Fayazullin (http://fms.komkon.org/), so everything he says about his sources applies here as well. I have just adapted the in/output routines to the PalmOS. The current release is to be only considered as a test, so please ignore it if you do not like its shortcomings. This is beta code, so use it at your risk. I will not be held responsible for any damage this program may cause to your unit or data! Obviously I have no idea about where to get roms or such stuff, so do not ask! Requires: - Palm OS 5 device; only tested on Tungsten and Simulator - An expansion card - COLECO.ROM bios file in the /Palm/programs/coleco dir of you expansion card; the COLEM.BIN must also be put into this directory - Any roms in the /Palm/programs/coleco/roms dir of you expansion card Still lacking: - PDB support for those without expansion cards - Better Sound (Noise channel still does not work correctly) - Better interface - any kind of error checks :) Usage: - Start it by clicking on the ColEm icon in your launcher - The popup list will contain all files in the /Palm/programs/coleco/roms directory which have a ".ROM" extension - Select a rom file from the drop down list - select a volume level with the slider at the bottom of the screen (notice that currently volume can not be changed during gameplay) - Select a different UPeriod, i.e. number of interrupts per screen update. Default is 2, 1 should provide slower speed but smoother refresh, while 3 should give jerkier refresh but faster gameplay. Does not make any sizeable difference on my Tungsten :) - Click start emulation button - Controls: 5-way pad for direction; the four hard keys represent, in order, "A", "B", "Left" and "Right" (for Clie Users) on the controller; the digit keys are simulated by the number-icons on screen - Push "Home" in the Silk Screen to get back to the menu, or "Star" to toggle controllers A/B That's all, and sorry, but it (still) sucks :) Source code is available on request. Bug reports and comments are welcome. Christian Prinoth c.prinoth@libero.it

Doesn't seem to work on my T|T3. I hope the author might decide to pick up the baton and give this a refresh. It was such a cool emu on my T|T (except for the white screen while playing)

On the T|T3, just makes a rapid clicking noise requiring a reset.

    Nice, but needs enhancements.

The author states he will release the source when asked, but does not respond to email.

Too bad, this really needs Zodiac enhancements.

It received a fair review as there are a few things not working on my device such as sound, and needs a key assign option so I can assign the buttons and joystick on my Tapwave Zodiac. With these issues corrected it would get an excellent rating as it seems to run at full speed.

This runs piles of coleco games, seemingly at full speed and mostly correct. Were the emulator scene on Palm a little more mature, I'd probably only rate this 'good' since it is just a little bit rough around the edges (as the author mentions) but given the current state, I rate this excellent because its fairly unique. Colecovision had a ton of great games. I might have to drag out my real Coleco now.

I am impressed with this emulator. Works pretty good on my Palm Zire71. The sound is rough every now and then. Would be nice if the game window were a tad bit bigger. But all said, definitely worth downloading. Good job.
